Tema: Dynamics of tidally evolving bodies modelled in the time domain
Resumo: Tidal dissipation is one of the main mechanisms for energy loss in planetary systems. In this seminar, I will discuss the main ideas behind modelling planetary tides via a time-domain description of the body's deformation. I will then show how to derive the dynamical equations for the orbital and rotational motion of celestial bodies in this theory. Finally, I will present the software RheoVolution which simulates the dynamics of N massive triaxial and deformable interacting bodies with a complex rheological model, and I will show some examples of dynamical phenomena in the Solar System where tidal effects are important.
