Neutral Lipid Snapshot
A digestive gland sample of around half an inch was used
Sections of 8 µm thickness taken using a cryostat
The sections were stained using oil red o stain
The stained slides were mounted using glycerine
The mounted slides were observed under a microscope and snapshots were taken using an imaging software
The snapshots were then used to measure the intensity of granules in the sample
Neutral lipids are broken down by lysosomes and an increase in their content can be attributed to the inhibition of certain enzymes, caused by exposure to Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or an increase in temperature. It can be noticed that March 2021 has a higher neutral lipid intensity, which can also be attributed to the development of reproductive tissue.
