Howdy,
It's hard to believe we are in ou last week of school. This has been a crazy year for me personally and I am sure my prolonged absence had an effect on my students. I will say, the support I received and expressions of concern by the students made the challenges less daunting. I wish I could have a do over as I feel my Eagles didn't get a fair shake on what needed to be taught and learned. Fortunately, we were able to cover the key PEGS. I feel confident that the students will be able to hit the ground running in 7th Grade Social Studies. I will be praying for their success and thinking of them this summer.
This week we have a few details to cover over the next three days. We are going to do our End of Year Atlas Project presentations. This is my final grade and it is a major grade. The district has also told us to make the next three days make up days for for missing grades for students wih failing grades for the Cycle and year. They have instructed us to use recess for those needing to work. In addition, I will be using class time for students needing to work on their grades. Unfortunately, we are collecting Chromebooks Monday so by the time I see some of my students we will not have Chromebooks. I will print out what I can for students to complete. Regrettably, not all assignments transfer from on-line to paper.
On a happier note, we have our Awards Ceremony Wednesday, and our Fun Day Activities Thursday, the last day of the 25-26 school year.
I am also providing Pizza on Tuesday for one class to celebrate having the highest percentage of work submitted in Cycle 6. Going into the weekend, 0.18 separated first place from second place, so what will determine the winner is one assignment being turned in. I also would like to say, all of the students responded positively to the competition as five classes completed and submitted over 94% while the remaining class turned in over 88% of our assignments. While I was shooting for 100%, the sudents did a great job of turning in their work each week.
Finally, I want to say thank you to all of you who offered me prayers and support this year. My Eagle students expressed their concern in so many ways and offered me help when they saw me struggling to do little things that I took for granted in previous years. I wasn't at my best for much of the year, but I have gradually gotten stronger and much of that is due to my Sixth grade parents and students. I would also be remiss if I didn't acknowledge my Sixth grade team. Mr. Hastings is a true friend of 30 years and made so many decisions this year to make my transition back into the classroom as seemless as possible. Mrs. Cane, Ms. Castro, Mr. Cheng and Ms. Prado made many sacrifices so I could get back to teaching. They are true friends and I appreciate them dearly. I also need to thank Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. Patel and Ms. Pierson who worked in my classroom and were always available for me when I asked for a break. Last but not least, I need to acknowledge the role Mr. V did in supporting our team as "Acting GLA" and in creating a Drama class that challlenged the students and made them love Theatre Arts. You all were great and I owe you more than I can ever repay.
To all of my soon to be Seventh Graders, have a fun filled Summer! Be Safe and come back in August ready to show your new teachers the best you can be. Good luck and thank you all.
Have a great Summer Break!
Thank you,
Vincent Hughes
