Properties and Changes in Matter
(August 24th-28th)
Topic Overview: In this topic, students compare the states of matter, investigate physical properties and identify elements and the formation of new substances.
TEKS:
6.1C Students will use appropriate safety equipment and practices during laboratory, classroom, and field investigations as outlined in Texas Education Agency-approved safety standards.
6.6A Compare solids, liquids, and gases in terms of their structure, shape, volume, and kinetic energy.

Monday:
Make Meaning - Key Ideas Video / Comparing States of Matter. Student scientists will complete "Key Idea Notes" to demonstrate understanding of changes in matter. Due in class.
Tuesday:
Savvas Quiz - Solids, Liquids and Gasses. Student scientists will demonstrate their understanding of the three states of matter. Due in class.
Wednesday:
Introduction to Physical Properties of Matter. S.S. will understand that physical properties are observed and measured. Science Journal activity using leaves. Students will record their leaf's physical propeties.
Thursday:
Why do substances behave the way they do? Student scientists will create a density tower to better understand the different properties of each substance.
Friday:
Mixtures and Solutions. How do they differ? S.S. will determine how homogenous mixture and a heterogenous mixture differ and why? Students will attempt to identify objects/substances and determine what type of mixture they are.
