About 6th Grade Accelerated Math
At ILTexas, all 6th grade students are enrolled in 6th Grade Accelerated Math. The course is "accelerated" because we will covering more than just the 6th grade Math curriculum.
This year students will learn all of the 6th grade material and half of the 7th grade "sprinkled" throughout the year, when appropriate.
Students will take the 6th grade Math STAAR in the Spring
Next year in 7th grade, students will finish the 7th grade curriculum as they learn all the 8th grade material.
Students will take the 8th grade Math STAAR that Spring. (They will skip the 7th grade Math STAAR altogether.)
The following year in 8th grade, students will take Algebra I, which is a High School course. After successfully completing that course, they will earn High School credit while they are still in Middle School.
This launches them into High School with an advantage, where they can then continue their High School math courses and potentially earn college credit for several other classes, all before they graduate High School.
