Congratulations to our talented undergraduate students from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Francisco Javier Martinez Villegas and Juan Fernando Aleman Cedillo, on completing their fall internship with our lab! 🌟 As participants in the I-MMÁS (Illinois-Mexican and Mexican American Students Initiative) program, they gained valuable mentorship from UIUC faculty and advanced their academic and professional skills. Throughout their time with us, their dedication and hard work culminated in outstanding poster presentations highlighting their potential as future scientists. We’re honored to have been part of their journey and eagerly look forward to the remarkable contributions they will make in the years ahead!

We are delighted to announce that Essie L. Ealy (left in the photo), a visiting scholar from Navajo Technical University, recently presented their research at the prestigious Illinois Summer Research Symposium 🧪. This presentation was part of Essie's participation in the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP), which aims to foster academic and professional development for scholars from diverse backgrounds. Since 1986, the SROP at Illinois has brought talented undergraduate students from across the US and its territories to our campus as an introduction to graduate study, research and the admission process; moreover, it provides students with an experience that will help strengthen their knowledge, skills and understanding of graduate school. Essie's involvement in this program not only highlights their commitment to nutritional sciences but also brings valuable recognition to the collaborative efforts between Navajo Technical University and our university/department. Please join us in congratulating Essie on their successful research presentation and their ongoing contributions to our scientific community. We are proud to support their journey and look forward to the continued impact of their work!
Congratulations to our graduate student, Bianca Xu, for receiving the Service Award from the North American Association for the Advancement of Nutrition and Health (NACAN) 🎉. Her involvement with NACAN has not only contributed significantly to the organization but also exemplified her dedication to bridging gaps between scholars in North America and China and promoting advanced nutrition and health! Congratulations to our graduate student, Bianca Guanying Xu for receiving the Dr. Barbara M. Shannon Graduate Scholarship in Food Science and Human Nutrition! They will use the funding provided by the awards to attend the Nutrition 2024 conference held by the American Society for Nutrition.
Congratulations to our graduate students, Elizabeth Brandley (right in the photo), for receiving the 2024 William C. Rose Endowment Award; and Abrory Pramana (left in the photo), for receiving the 2024 Toshiro Nishida Research Award, from the Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS)! They will use the funding provided by the awards to attend academic conferences and present their research results to audiences all over the world! We are very lucky to have such outstanding researchers in our lab :)
