Master of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage in Qur'an and Sunnah Studies
The programme is composed of 40 credit hours and it is offered in three modes: (i) by coursework and research (ii) by research only and (iii) by coursework only. In the first mode, students are required to accumulate 25 credit hours of coursework and 15 credit hours of dissertation. The second mode is restricted to candidates with previous experience in publication. In the third mode, there are 34 credit hours of coursework and 6 credit hours of academic exercise.
Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in the relevant discipline with good grades from institutions recognized by the Senate of the University.
Arabic and English proficiency levels at the following minimum score:
IIUM Arabic Placement Test (APT) : 7.0
TOEFL (Paper based) : 550; or IELTS : Band 6.

A) Coursework and research
Students are required to take the following courses:
1. Kulliyyah Required Courses (7 credit hours)
Research Methodology -Eng/ Arab (4 hours)
Issues in Islamization of Knowledge -Eng/ Arab (3 hours)
2. Core Courses (12 credit hours /3 credit hours each)
Analytical Studies in Sciences of the Qur’an
Methodology of Hadith Scholars
Studies on the Methodology of Qur’anic Tafsir
Contemporary Issues in Sunnah Studies
Elective Courses (6 credit hours)
Students are required to choose two from the following courses with 3 credit hours each:
Studies of Personal Reasoning & Fatwa
Theory of Permissibility from Usuli’s Perspective
Studies in Comparative Fiqh
Islam and Contemporary Western Philosophy
Islamic Critical Thinking –Eng/ Arab
Belief Systems and Ideologies
3. Dissertation (15 credit hours)
B) Coursework Only
Students are required to take the following courses:

Students are required to produce two research articles and each article should be about 6000 words.
