Background
The Department of Qur’an and Sunnah Studies is one of the pioneer departments under the AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Since its establishment, the Department has been at the forefront of teaching, research, and scholarship in the field of Qur’anic and Sunnah studies, with the aim of preserving and transmitting the authentic Islamic heritage while addressing contemporary issues of the Ummah.
The Department offers a holistic curriculum that integrates classical Islamic sciences with modern approaches to knowledge. Areas of specialization include Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir), Qur’anic sciences (‘ulūm al-Qur’ān), hadith studies (‘ulūm al-hadīth), methodology of interpretation, and applied studies of the Qur’an and Sunnah in addressing present-day challenges.
In line with IIUM’s vision of “Integration, Islamization, Internationalization and Comprehensive Excellence (IIICE),” the Department seeks to produce graduates who are spiritually conscious, intellectually competent, and socially responsible. These graduates are trained to serve as educators, researchers, leaders, and professionals capable of contributing to the development of a just, balanced, and harmonious society guided by the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Relevantisation
The Department advances the relevantisation of Qur’an and Sunnah scholarship through a principled process of reform and renewal (Iṣlāḥ, Tajdīd, Iḥyāʾ, Takāmul, and Ijtihād), ensuring its enduring intellectual vitality and relevance to contemporary global realities.
Integration
The Department pursues integration through at-takāmul al-maʿrifī, synthesising revealed knowledge with diverse fields of knowledge within contemporary scholarship.
Internationalisation
The Department enhances internationalisation by strengthening ukhuwwah within the global ummah, promoting cooperation, solidarity, and collective advancement beyond borders.
Comprehensive Excellence
The Department strives for comprehensive excellence, anchored in iḥsān and itqān, across teaching, research, publication, innovation, and community engagement to deliver sustained academic and global impact.
