Once the student has been accepted into a school, they will have to apply for the permit, in Canada called a study permit.
When your application is approved, the embassy will ask the student to send them your passport, and they will return it to the student along with a letter of introduction. This letter has to be brought with you when you travel to Canada and shown to the Canada Border Service officer, and they will give you your study permit.
The student can apply for the permit online or by going to a visa application centre. It can take up to 3 months to get a study permit.
The F-1 visa is a immigrant student visa that allows you to attend secondary school studies.

The first step the student needs to take to study in the US with an F visa is applying to an SEVP-approved school (Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification allows institutions to admit international students).
If the enrolment is accepted, the student will be registered for the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) and will have to pay the I-901 fee that is 315,81€. After this process, the student will be issued a Form I-20 and they may schedule an interview at the US Embassy or Consulate for a student F visa. The application fee for the visa is 171,77€.
The visa application can be issued up to 365 days before the start of the course. Nevertheless, you are not allowed to enter the country more than 30 days before the start date.

To be approved for the J-1 visa for secondary school students there are some requirements the student must complete:
The student must between 15 and 18 years and six months old.
They cannot have finished more than 11 years of kindergarten, primary and secondary school
They can not have previously participated in a secondary school student year or semester program in the US with an F-1 or J-1 visa.
Once the student has been approved, they will have to be accepted in an eligible program and will automatically be registered in the SEVIS. Afterwards, they will have to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee that is 198,48€, in some cases is not required, and finally, schedule an interview with the US Embassy. The application fee for the visa is 171,77€.
