ENGLISH LITERATURE
Students will be expected to study a range of texts drawn from prose, drama and poetry. They will respond critically and imaginatively…
Paper 1: Shakespeare and the 19th-century novel
Assessed: written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes; 64 marks; 40% of GCSE
Paper 2: Modern texts and poetry
Assessed: written exam: 2 hour 15 minutes; 96 marks; 60% of GCSE
The texts studied are likely to be:
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens; ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare; ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J.B. Priestley; and an anthology of poetry (provided by the examination board). We would suggest that students purchase their own copies so that they can annotate and make notes in the text to aid with revision.
