CHILDcare PLUS (RM 306)

Partnership means everyone brings something to the table. When we think about people living with poverty, do we see them as partners in their own development?

ChildCARE Plus (CCP) is an education-based sponsorship program that works in 28 countries on 4 continents. Research shows that education is the best way to end the cycle of generational poverty. Here in Thailand, we have programs in 20 locations working with children, families, schools, and communities to partner with children as they work towards completing their schooling. The generosity of sponsors, the support of CCP, the care of community, and the hard work of a child, all come together to create meaningful change. It’s partnership in action.

In our SPARK session, we’re going to look at how a partnership perspective changes our expectations, engagements, and relationships. People living with poverty are not the recipients of charity, but are creators, innovators, and implementers of change as we all work together towards our collective well being.

Samartian creationS (RM 405)

Are we helping or hurting? This question is critical for all stages of a developmental program. To genuinely help those in need, we must be smart about our methods and structures.

It’s tragic that, despite the best of intentions, many efforts to help actually perpetuate the very needs we’re trying to eliminate. We give hand-outs as an act of compassion, but in doing so create dependency. We lavish gifts in a show of generosity, but in doing so reinforce the recipient’s sense of inadequacy and lack of self-worth.

Learn from the mistakes the facilitator, Michael Killar, has made in over 14 years of aiding women leaving the Thai sex industry.
