About the Catholic University of America:
"Established as a papally chartered graduate and research center by Pope Leo XIII and founded by the bishops of the United States in 1887, The Catholic University of America is the nation’s oldest Catholic research university. We take seriously our sacred responsibility to uphold the traditions of the Church, drawing on our rich heritage of academic excellence and faith-based education, as we shape future generations of devout scholars and leaders. For more than 130 years, we have lived out our mission to discover and impart the truth through excellence in teaching and research, all in service to the Church, the nation, and the world. Catholic University scientists, engineers, nurses, philosophers, theologians, historians, architects, social workers, musicians, artists, and scholars in all fields embrace both reason and faith as we apply the inexhaustible resources of the Catholic intellectual tradition to help solve the problems of contemporary life and enrich the culture around us." About The Encyclopedia of American Catholic History:
"The Encyclopedia of American Catholic History is a landmark reference work, offering a sweeping narrative of American Catholicism from Columbus to modern times. Edited by Michael Glazier and Thomas J. Shelley, this comprehensive volume includes over 1,200 articles, 300 photos, and extensive biographies. Organized alphabetically, it serves as a rich educational resource for those teaching, preaching, or studying American Catholic heritage. This first reference work of its kind ever published in the United States is a splendid and unique achievement created by hundreds of historians and writers who cooperated to narrate the saga of American Catholicism. Beginning with Columbus, this comprehensive work spans half a millennium and covers the men, women, and events that shaped Catholic life in a vast and diverse nation. Over 1,200 articles, 300 photographs, and a million words comprise this elegant volume, which provides American Catholics with a panoramic and extraordinary education in their identity and heritage. Edited by Michael Glazier and Thomas J. Shelley, The Encyclopedia of American Catholic History recounts the struggles and status of American Catholics in every generation of the nation's history. It also narrates and charts the phenomenal growth of the Church in each of the fifty states. It contains hundreds of factual biographies of men and women from all stratas of society. It focuses on the explorers; the pioneering Spanish, French, and English missionaries; the struggles of the colonial and revolutionary era; the turbulent and transforming nineteenth century with its waves of immigrants; the industrial revolution; and the challenges and crises of this century, down to our day." The 8th grade candle sale is an annual ICS tradition that helps fund the 8th grade end-of-year field trip, graduation ceremony, and party. This year, since the 8th grade is so small, we decided to expand the sale to all students as a way for younger students to “pay it forward” and help the 8th grade. Money not used by this year’s 8th grade class will go toward next year’s 8th grade class.
Students will be taking candle orders after Mass through December 1st.
Please follow this link to view the La-Tee-Dah fundraising brochure.

ICS is pleased to announce the formation of a Creative Writing Club. Mary's Sacred Scribes meet every other Friday during recess and lunch, Students also meet independently with Mrs. Knisely during recess and after school. Student work will be published by Mary's Sacred Scribes at the end of the school year in the Jesus Journal and at a reading for an invited audience of family and friends. Mary's Sacred Scribes work on individual areas of interest -- poetry, short stories, novels, essays, and dramatic literature. Mary's Sacred Scribes will combine forces with Mary's Righteous Raiders to create original scripts.
The Jesus Journal is a publication compiled and edited by students under Mrs. Knisely's guidance. Students from all grades are welcome to submit material. Look for the first issue of the Jesus Journal at the end of the 2024/2025 school-year.
Mary's Sacred Scribes and the Jesus Journal were founded in 2024 by Mrs. Knisely and 7th grade students interested in creative writing.
CLIMB Theater is coming to ICS on December 19!
The nationally recognized theater known for using "theater in reverse" to teach young people about subjects like acceptance of differences, bullying, sexual abuse and substance abuse, will be performing Relative Location for grades 5-8. They play focuses on Equity, Well-Being, and Empathy skills.
"Overwhelmed with impending deadlines for the school magazine, important tests, and friendship drama, three friends find themselves re-examining questions of equity, empathy, and how to put their wellbeing first."
After the play, students in grades 5-8 will return to their individual classrooms to participate in a follow-up class with CLIMB's actor/educators. The class will feature a mixture of games, activities, skits, and discussion to help reinforce the concepts taught in the play.
CLIMB stands for Creative Learning Ideas for Mind and Body. To learn more about this amazing 50-year-old MN theater and "theater in reverse", the form created by CLIMB's founder, Peg Wetli, please visit CLIMB.
ICS is pleased to announce the formation of a liturgical drama troupe. Mary's Righteous Raiders will perform the Stations of the Cross during Lent. With the help of Mary's Sacred Scribes the troupe will create and perform original dramatic pieces based on the stories, parables and teachings from the Bible. In addition, Mary's Righteous Raiders will use theater in reverse to teach classroom behavior, the Cardinal Virtues, and other subjects.
Mary's Righteous Raiders was founded in 2024 by Mrs. Knisely and her 8th grade homeroom to support ICS' mission to "minister to children within the school and the surrounding neighborhoods".
