GROUND CONTEXT TUTORIAL

Step 1

Research the history of the site. Take notes and find important historic documents.


Step 2

Create section drawing and define the site's ground profile.

Step 3

Using your notes and/or the historic documents you found, create one large text box in Adobe Illustrator

Step 4

Use the add anchor point command (keyboard +) to add anchor points to the text box and match those points with site's ground profile using the direct selection tool (keyboard A).

Step 5

Adjust the font style, size, and spacing to your liking

Step 6

Line up ground text with the section elements

Land Acknowledgement Statement

“We would like to begin this event with a land acknowledgment. Iowa State University is located on the ancestral lands and territory of the Baxoje (bah-kho-dzhe), or Ioway Nation. The United States obtained the land from the Meskwaki and Sauk nations in the Treaty of 1842. We wish to recognize our obligations to this land and to the people who took care of it, as well as to the 17,000 Native people who live in Iowa today."
