FUTURE SPECULATIONS

If the United States adopts a Green New Deal to ameliorate the effects of the climate crisis, how can we illustrate the spatial ramifications of transformational change and the values inherent to such a project through architectural drawings and other narrative devices? The following projects focus on a number of concerns made apparent to us through our research; the growing number of people without permanent housing in Des Moines, the lack of access to biodiverse spaces, land use and management in the region, and the impact of industrial agriculture.

The futures we've visualized look beyond design solutions to address the 'scaffolding' which makes change possible. From the abstract (knowledge, customs, and habits) to the actual (budgets, infrastructure, law), these speculatory drawings, events, websites, games, and guides are an invitation to consider what transformational climate policy looks like for Iowa.
