Kindergarten Registration Requirements
Any child residing in Columbia who is five years of age on or before January 1st may enroll in kindergarten. Appropriate documentation (copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization, and proof of town residency) is required. If you have not already submitted your child's birth certificate and residency information, please email it to Tammy Nye at tnye@hwporter.org. You may also contact her if you have any questions regarding appropriate documents.
Kindergarten Schedule
Full day kindergarten begins at 8:15 a.m. If your child arrives later than 8:25 a.m. he/she is considered tardy and will need to get a tardy slip at the front desk. There is a before school care program available in the café from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. daily at no charge. School ends at 3:15 p.m. daily. When the school has a scheduled early release day, dismissal will be at 1:15 p.m. When we need to have an early release due to inclement weather, dismissal will be at 12:30 p.m.
Kindergarten Philosophy
Kindergarten provides maximum growth and developmental activities for each student. This takes place through interaction with peers in a positive, social, interactive classroom environment that emphasizes literacy and social development. The focus is on attention to the needs and differences of the individual student, with an understanding that each student progresses at a different pace.
