Families are their student’s first teacher. Your involvement is critical to your student’s success in school. Studies have shown that when families are involved, children feel better about themselves and learn more.
Three things you can do:
Make sure your student is well-fed and well-rested for school.
Encourage your student to behave in positive ways.
Take time to read with your student each day.
Other ways that families can help their student:
Create a positive attitude toward school.
Establish habits of regular and prompt attendance.
Label all personal possessions.
Read school notices and respond to them if requested.
Pack nutritious snacks and encourage your student to eat a good breakfast and lunch.
Encourage your student to share his/her school experience at home. Asking specific questions about their day will encourage more discussion.
Help your student assume responsibility at home.
Allow your student opportunities to play with other children.
Help your student to learn to respect the rights and property of others.
Show an interest in your student's work by visiting his/her classroom and talking about work brought home.
Encourage your student by praising his/her efforts and accomplishments.
Be sure to send a note explaining any absence from school.
Take your student to places of interest and talk with him/her often throughout the day about what he/she is experiencing.
Volunteers are always welcome in the classroom. However, at this time we cannot allow additional people into the school. Once we receive guidance as to allowing visitors, we will share this information with our families. Thank you for your understanding and patience as our primary goal is to keep our students and staff healthy and safe.
