Peer Leadership
Peer Leadership
The Peer Leader program at Mountz aims to develop leadership skills, promote a positive school environment and foster connections among students. Being a Peer Leader is a rewarding experience and offers students valuable opportunities for teamwork and personal growth. Participation in the program is voluntary and open to all 7th and 8th grade students. Students attend an information meeting at the beginning of the year and sign up for the Peer Leader roles they are interested in. Some of these roles include:
K-2 and 3-5 Recess Leaders: Peer Leaders attend recess to serve as role models and to engage with students, promoting social skills and conflict resolution.
New Student Mentors: Peer Leaders are assigned to new students to give them a tour and answer their questions.
Pre-K Guest Readers: Peer Leaders visit the PreK classes to read books related to the school's monthly character traits.
Character Counts: Peer Leaders assist in character trait related initiatives.
In addition to their roles at Mountz, Peer Leaders attend an annual workshop along with sending district peer leaders. The workshop is sponsored and led by the Manasquan High School Peer Leaders. At this workshop, students hear from a motivational guest speaker and break in to groups to engage in various leadership skills building activities.
