Here are some activities to keep up with your learning whilst we're off.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me at piperj9@hwbcymru.net or ask me through Seesaw and I will answer you as soon as I can. Please do not hesitate to get in touch even if you think that it is only a small question. I am always here to help.
Remember if you need to contact me you can do this in a few different ways:
Send me an email through your Hwb Outlook email account, my email address is piperj9@hwbcymru.net
Send me a written message or video through Seesaw using your Home Learning Codes.
You can access your mails through Outlook in your Hwb account. You can send pictures of your work to me using your Home Learning codes for Seesaw.
If you have a printer please DO NOT feel as if you have to print out the worksheets to write on. They are there only as an example and to help you see how we would record activities in school. If you have a piece of paper simply use the headings to guide and help you. You could even record yourself with the answers on see saw.
Throughout all of our learning tasks in class and now online, you will see that the pupils are offered the opportunity to choose the level of challenge they wish to take on.
The tasks labelled with 1 star are what we expect our pupils to achieve. The 2 star and 3 star levels become more challenging and difficult for them.
We encourage our pupils to take on as much challenge as they can!
The more challenge, the more they will learn!

In the story that you read -who was your favourite character in the story? Why did you like them? Did they do anything that made you laugh or upset.
Would you recommend the book to another child?
Draw a picture of the character and write a short paragraph telling me all about them.
What do they look like?
What did they do in the story?
Why you liked them?
Would you like to be the character and why?
If you were in the story is there anything you would do differently to the character? If so what would you do?

Draw a picture of the character and around them write 8-10 words that describe them. Write these words into a sentences.
When learning to write children go through many stages of development. Some children may be making marks, others write single letters and some write sentences using full words. The important job you have, is to encourage them to have a go! Children will not always spell words correctly but we love to see them try and sound them out using their Read Write Inc sounds. Which ever stage your son or daughter is at please keep sending me their work so I can see how they are getting on!
As we are looking at the Galapagos Islands the most well known animal from the island is the Giant Tortoise. We know lots about the tortoise but do you know how it got it's shell.
I have found a a story about its close relative the turtle- 'How the turtle got it's shell'. Read the text carefully and answer the questions using the information of the text.
Once you have finished draw or sketch a giant tortoise and research interesting facts about the turtle.
Use the text and your opinion to answer the questions.
Once you have answered the questions can you sketch a giant tortoise and research 7 interesting facts about it.
To use a text to find information
Once you have answered the questions can you sketch a giant tortoise and research 5 interesting facts about it.
Find information from a text using multi choice questions.
Once you have answered the questions can you sketch a giant tortoise and research 3 interesting facts about it.
Recap activities using addition/ subtraction/ multiplication / area and problem solving activities.
I have given you a series of questions that involve addition/ subtraction, multiplication, and area questions. Read them carefully and decide which method you need to use to answer the questions.
Look at the power point opposite as I explain how to undertake the challenges in more detail.

Watch the videos of the Galapagos Islands below.
Make a note of what you can see. You may include animals, landscapes- e.g. lakes, rivers, the sea, forests, volcanos.
Using the information that you have gathered design your own island. Try to include some geographical features, for example, mountains, rivers, beaches, cliffs, jungles etc. Design it based on what you like – imagine that you can live there! Think of these questions when you are designing them-
What is your island called?
What shape is the island?
What animals will you see and where will they live on the island?
Which side of the island will you find a lake, river and what animals will you find in these areas.
Is there anything of interest around the island?
Is your island inhabited? if so who lives there?
Write a short description of your island.
Hopefully later in the term we will make your island.
I have given you some examples of designs.
As we are looking at different materials this term including solids, gases and liquids I have given you some simple experiments that you can try at home.
As you know materials are chosen for what they can do. e.g. some are flexible, some are hard and some are absorbent. The clips opposite recap how each material is chosen for a specific task.
Here are some experiments that you can try at home.
Did you know that you can make a solid move in water. Watch the clip opposite and see if you can make a solid move in water.
Why do you think that the solid moved in the water.
Experiment 1 Making Crystal Geodes
You will need water, eggs, salt and food colouring (although you could try paint)
Get various glass bowls and crack open eggs carefully. Clean the egg shells and place half in each bowl. Boil some water and stir in salt until the water is fully saturated. (You will need to keep adding more salt until the salt stays at the bottom and doesn't dissolve anymore. Add drops of food colouring and pour the coloured solution on top of the egg shells. Pour some into the egg shells first as it will help them float.
As the water evaporates and turns into a gas, the crystals will form.
Experiment 2 Making milk ornaments.
Microwave to heat up a cup of milk and then stir teaspoons of vinegar. As the vinegar breaks down the proteins in the milk it will start to make lumps. Strain the milk and use a spoon and paper towel to get rid of all the liquid. Use a cookie cutter to shape your dough and add some food colouring. leave it for a couple of days to dry and your milk ornament will be ready.
Experiment 3 - Solids, gas and liquids.
Watch the video to see how to use solids to make a gas. If you try the experiment please work with an adult.
For this week I thought we would put together everything we have learnt over the last few weeks into one activity.
Oracy - I have made a clip of all the language that we have practiced this term. See if you can remember the words with me.
Using power point 2 look at the map of the town. Read the questions by the side. They ask- oes parc yn y dre? ( Is there a park in the town?) (look for the park.) If you can see it answer.
Oes mae park yn yr dre.
or
Nag oes does dim park yn yr dre.
Writing- Copy out the poem and then answer the questions that are written by the side of the poem.
3.Reading- To finish this week let’s read the poem - Yr dre
