At lunchtimes many of our children opt to bring a packed lunch from home. We do not 'police' food that comes from home as we do not feel this is the role of the school, however, we do recommend that you provide a balanced diet with minimal fat and sugar content as well as fresh fruit and/or vegetables. Please do not include foods which contain nuts or nut derivatives as a number of pupils (at any given time) have allergies which, in some cases, can lead to life threatening reactions.
As a school we promote the importance of pupil attendance and that is the reason why we never quickly or willingly decide to shut the school when there is adverse weather. There are many factors that will be taken into account when considering any potential closures due to severe weather conditions. Such factors include;
Is our school site safe?
Are members of staff able to safely travel to school?
What does the weather forecast predict and what weather warnings are in place?
Once we have considered these three factors (and any other additional factors) we aim to make any decision on opening before 8am.
If your child is using the school bus, it is important that you are there to see them on and meet them off the bus. Unfortunately, buses are occasionally late due to traffic. If you ever have a concern please ring the school office on 01291 623006. A member of staff will collect the children once they arrive at school in the morning, and the teacher on duty is responsible for seeing the children safely onto the bus at the end of the day. If you make any alteration to the usual arrangement for your child’s journey home, please notify the school in writing, to save any confusion.
To apply for free school transportation with Monmouthshire County Council you will need to apply directly to them. Here is the link to do so.
