This week in Dosbarth Sant Carlo Acutis, we have had lots of fun while working hard!
In literacy, we created a dialogue between the dragon and the pilot from the clip The Eye of the Storm. We learnt how dialogue can help to reveal a character's thoughts and feelings and move a story forward. We also explored how to punctuate speech correctly and upgraded our vocabulary by choosing more powerful and descriptive alternatives to the word said. This helped us to improve our descriptive writing and make our stories more engaging for the reader. We learnt how authors and filmmakers use clues to create mystery and suspense.
In maths, we have been practising doubling decimal numbers. We used our place value knowledge to help us understand how decimal numbers change when they are doubled and explained our reasoning using mathematical vocabulary. This is helping us become more confident and accurate problem-solvers.
In science, we started our new topic, we are going to be planning an investigation about lung capacity. We learnt how scientists ask questions, make observations and record their findings carefully.
We also went swimming and challenged ourselves to improve our swimming skills. We practised a range of strokes, including backstroke and breaststroke, and worked on our stamina, technique and confidence in the water.
That's all from Dosbarth Sant Carlo Acutis. Diolch and have a lovely weekend! 😊
This week in Dosbarth Sant Carlo Acutis, we had lots of fun and enjoyed many exciting learning activities.
In our My Body, My Rights work, we learned about children's rights and why they are important. We created artwork in our learning journals, drawing different parts of the body and labelling them in both English and Welsh. We discussed the different rights and what rights are important to us.
In Literacy, we watched the video Eye of the Storm. We made predictions about what might happen, and were able to justify our opinions by using evidence from the film to support our thinking, developing our reasoning, comprehension and writing skills.
In Maths, we explored decimal numbers and investigated whether a decimal with more digits is always greater than a decimal with fewer digits. We used our reasoning skills to explain our answers and challenge misconceptions.
During Guided Reading, we continued reading Street Child. We learned more about Rosie and discussed what was similar and different between her and Mr Spink. We were able to make inferences from the text and support our ideas with evidence. We also improved our discussion skills by listening to and responding to the opinions of others.
We have had a fantastic week of learning and are proud of all the hard work we have completed!
This week in Dosbarth Sant Carlo Acutis we have been developing our understanding of 7 and 8 digit numbers, by partitioning, ordering, comparaing and rounding. We challenged outselves to explain our mathematical thinking, identifying patterns, selecting efficient strategies solve reasoning promblems and justify our answers.
We are continuing to explore the Listeners by Walter De La Mere and a a new poem called The House, and are developing our performance skills by using expression, intonation, pace and sound effects to engage an audience and enhance the impact of our performances.
In our independent missions this we week we investigated why Fairtrade is important and how it helps producers and communities around the world. We developed our digital skills by researching information, selecting key facts and creating informative infographics. Through creative art activities, we explored ways to communicate Fairtrade messages visually and learned how design can be used to influence and inform others.
Through discussion we have identified people who support us, guide us and help us to grow. We reflected on how family members, friends, teachers and other trusted adults influence our lives by encouraging us, teaching us new skills and helping us through challenges. Using Welsh vocabulary and sentence patterns, we practised speaking, reading and writing about these special relationships and considered how the people around us help shape who we are and who we aspire to be. We then used this to create an infographic to display this information.
We were also fortunate to receive a visit from our local PCSO, who taught us about staying safe when riding bikes and scooters. We learned about the different types of scooters and bicycles that are legal and illegal to use, as well as the importance of following rules and making responsible choices to keep ourselves and others safe.
We are incredibly proud of everything we have achieved this week and look forward to building on these skills in the weeks ahead!
This week in Dosbarth Sant Carlo Acutis we have been proud to deliver our first class assembly about new beginnings to our parents and the rest of our school family, we developed our oracy skills, although we were quite shy when we stood up in front of everyone.
On top of that we also visited our local library borrowing books to read and return when the next class goes, we are really enjoying reading for pleasure, but were disappointed as some of the books we wanted to read were in the teenage section.
We have explored a new site called J2 journal to upload our amazing work and creations, this is allowing us to develop our digital skills by creating, sharing and presenting our work online.
We also completed our 3rd week doing swimming lessons and have improved our skills at swimming and our personal fitness.
In literacy we have learnt sentence techniques in order to build suspense, such short sentences, rheotorical questions etc. We have used these techniques to write a extended piece using description thoughts and feelings about the poem The Listeners by Walter De La Mere.
For maths we have been learning how to compare and order numbers up to 1 million, developing our place value, reasoning, and problem solving skills.
Finally, during our independent learning missions, we explored different ways of representing oursleves. We created 3D digital models, designed and built structures using Kapla, and made art work to show what we like.
We have used Tinkercad to design 3d prayer tokens and toys for our buddies. We used sofware to design, resize and group our objects so that they all link and we can then print them as one complete piece.
We continued to develop and build upon our drawing skills from last week, and utilised the different techniques of drseing lines, shading and blending to create a self portrait.
We used DADWAVERS to develop our writing skills to create a paragraph based on the poem The Listeners. We developed our use of different vocabulary to create an engaging piece of writing.
We have had a very creative week in Dosbarth Sant Carlo Acutis, we have developed our drawing skills through shading, sketching and blending so that we can draw different facial features. Next week we will use these skills to create a self portrait.
We are very grateful for the donations of plants we recieved, we have successfully planted them outside our classroom ensuring that the soil was prepared before hand, there were no weeds or roots and the hole was big enough for the plants.
We have explored and developed our understanding of unfamiliar words in the poem the Listeners by Walter DeLeMere through discussion and the use of a dictionary to find out the meaning. This allowed us to understand the poem better.
We also had our first swimming lesson!
This week in Dosbarth Sant Carlo Acutis we have learnt how to use AI to generate an image we can use as our class logo. It includes our class name, picture of St Carlo Acutis and our motto. We decided that the fairest way to choose the final class logo, was to look at them all, shortlist them into those that had met the criteria and then vote on our favourite. We developed our skills in art to create cartoon versions of ourselves that we will use throughout the year. We have really enjoyed looking after our buddies, teaching them about our school and playing games with them.
