Outdoor Learning aims to improve the social, physical, creative, cultural and personal development of young people and adults holistically through experiential learning outdoors.
The qualification supports the aspiration for an active, healthy and inclusive Wales, where outdoor learning provides a common platform for participation, fun, achievement and employment, increasing understanding of the environment, the language Welsh and the cultural heritage and future of Wales.
Depending on the individuals, the school will have a choice to choose suitable units for the pupils.
Here are some examples:
Personal safety when learning outdoors
Using natural and sustainable resources
Work in a team
Camping craft skills
Take part in an outdoor trip
Outdoor activities on land
Outdoor activities on the water
Use a map and compass for directions
There are no exams attached to this qualification. The work will be assessed through the learners' work booklets throughout the course.
These qualifications meet the needs of the Welsh Government's Curriculum for Wales across all areas of learning and experience, and provide the equivalent of ¼, ½, 1 and 2 GCSEs for progression to higher education.
