The course is an excellent starting point for anyone considering a career within the field of Health and Social Care e.g. nursing, social work and working with children.
It is suitable for those pupils who want to follow a course that is relevant to life and relationships, and for those who are interested in people and the services that are provided for them.
Due to the vocational nature of the course, it is a valuable preparation for pupils' future, whether in higher education or in the world of work.
Develop and apply knowledge, understanding and skills to contemporary issues in a range of health and social care, and childcare contexts
Develop as effective and independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers with inquiring minds
Appreciate a range of views on the effects of health and social care services, and childcare on wider society
Consider the fact that practice in health and social care, and childcare should be ethical and support a sustainable health and care system
Develop and apply skills relevant to health and social care, and childcare including the use and interpretation of data
Develop awareness of the career paths available in the health and social care sector, and childcare.
Unit 1: Growth, development and human well-being - Written examination: 40%
An assessment that includes a range of question types in order to assess the content of the specification relating to the growth, development and well-being of people. All questions are compulsory.
Unit 2: Promoting and maintaining health and well-being - Non-exam assessment:
Task 1 - Provision of Services - 20%
An investigation in relation to the provision of health and social care services, and childcare locally and nationally which will assess the learner's knowledge, skills and understanding
Task 2: Health Promotion β 40%
A task that assesses the learner's knowledge, skills and understanding in relation to promoting and maintaining health and well-being. They will need to plan, create and deliver and evaluate a health promotion campaign of their choice.
