The main purpose of the qualification is to allow learners to develop hair and beauty skills, techniques and knowledge to prepare them for further vocational studies. Learners are prepared directly in each unit for further studies in the beauty sector. The course was designed as a foundation for working in the Hair and Beauty sector. Knowledge of the hair and beauty sector is developed to allow progression to Hairdressing or beauty therapy. Pupils will travel to a leisure center in Carmarthen and back to school and the course will be delivered one afternoon a week over a period of two years by Coleg Sir Gรขr staff.
It is noted that there are a maximum of 36 places on the course. The school will consider the effort, dedication and attendance of learners if there is more interest in the course than the numbers allowed.
The course includes units in basic nail art, basic skin care, basic hair drying and preparation, washing and conditioning hair, basic hair plating and twisting, manicures, working with the hair and beauty industries and hair coloring using color over turn. Students will have to complete a variety of practical assessments along with written assignments in each unit.
There are no exams attached to this qualification. The work will be assessed through practical assessments and the learners' portfolio work throughout the course.
