The WJEC GCSE qualification in Digital Technology is a broad qualification that enables learners to build on the digital skills, knowledge and understanding used in their school and everyday lives.
The qualification will enable learners to build their understanding of the variety of digital technology systems used in our connected and global society.
It will also enable learners to explore the evolving nature of digital technology systems and how these systems can be used in a productive, creative and safe way.
The WJEC GCSE specification in Digital Technology will enable learners to:
become independent, confident and knowledgeable in using new, existing and emerging digital technologies
foster knowledge of different digital technology systems used in a variety of occupational sectors
understand the potential impact of digital technologies on individuals and wider society and the ways in which they can lead to change
building skills in organising and analysing data in order to identify trends and audiences
become makers of digital products, in a variety of formats and for a variety of purposes, that meet specified and valid needs
develop transferable skills when using a variety of hardware and software
foster their understanding of the systems development life cycle and the way ideas can become products.
Unit 1 - The Digital World (40%)
An assessment (done on screen) which includes various types of questions to assess the content of the specification relating to digital technology systems, the value of digital technology and views on digital technology. All questions are compulsory.
Unit 2 - Digital Habits (40%)
A non-exam assessment consisting of two sections.
In Section A, candidates will query a data set that will have been provided and imported into a spreadsheet in order to complete Section B, where they will create a website incorporating animation related to a specific context .
Unit 3 - Communication in the Digital World (20%)
A non-exam assessment focusing on marketing digital assets using social media. Candidates will create a digital asset (marketing video) for a specific business or event suitable for sharing on a social platform.
Unit 1 - The Digital World (40%)
Exam on screen - 90 minutes.
Learners will sit the exam on a screen at the end of year 11.
Unit 2 - Digital Habits (40%)
Controlled assessment, approximately 45 hours.
Learners will carry out the assessment within the lessons.
Unit 3 - Communication in the Digital World (20%)
Controlled assessment, approximately 15 hours
Learners will carry out the assessment within the lessons.
