Textiles is an exciting and creative subject that encourages students to seek innovative solutions by using materials and techniques intelligently, imaginatively and experimentally.Â
Textile Design focuses on the creation of original designs and products for woven, knitted, stitched and printed fabrics, giving students the opportunity to explore how ideas can be transformed into real outcomes.Â
Throughout the course, students develop a strong understanding of fibres, yarns and fabrics, while building practical skills and confidence in design, making and problem-solving
Unit 1 -Portfolio
This unit includes a main practical portfolio and outcome(s) based on themes. Work by artists, designers, a particular culture or movement is studied through contextual studies. Pupils will start to create their portfolio at the start of year 10 and spend four terms to complete it.
Unit 2- Externally Set Assignment
This unit is based on preparatory study which leads to an intense and detailed ten-hour work period where you will produce a response to a chosen theme, visual stimuli or written brief. The exam is completely practical in nature and there is no written examÂ
Unit 1: Portfolio 60% of the qualification.
Unit 1 is internally assessed and externally moderated.
