WHY CHOOSE GCSE ART AND DESIGN?
The WJEC GCSE Art and Design qualification will support you to:
explore the work of artists and designers to help develop your own creative talent
develop creative skills so that you can plan, devise and design your own work
gain practical skills, becoming increasingly sophisticated and controlled
reflect on, evaluate and refine your work
explore diversity, identity and culture
WHAT SKILLS WILL I DEVELOP?
You will learn to use a broad range of media, techniques, tools and processes depending on which pathway you choose. You will develop the skills to create artefacts β whether that is painting, ceramics, fashion design, or 3D work. You will learn how to develop creative processes and working methods to develop the visual outcomes that you choose. You will also learn and understand about working independently to develop your own ideas. Through all of this, you will gain an awareness of sustainability in art and design as well as a deeper understanding of culture and identity through engaging with your emerging work.
Unit 1 -Portfolio
This unit includes a main practical portfolio and outcome(s) based on themes. Work by artists, designers, a particular culture or movement is studied through contextual studies. Unit 2- Externally Set Assignment
This unit is based on preparatory study which leads to an intense and detailed ten-hour work period where you will produce a response to a chosen theme, visual stimuli or written brief. The exam is completely practical in nature and there is no written examΒ
