In the Summer of 2021 the Headteachers from the Eastern High Cluster of schools decided that a Senior leader from schools within the cluster would lead a New Curriculum Area of Learning (AOLE) on a joint project across the respective schools. The Science & Technology Lead practitioners from each of the cluster schools met via Microsoft Teams on June 26th 2021 to discuss a joint venture.
During the initial meeting (led by Mr D Guinee Bryn Hafod Primary School) the AOLE school leaders discussed the areas within their AOLE that they are going to continue with, which aspects they were going to amend and which aspects they were going to drop completely.
The aim of the exercise was to identify commonalities across the cluster and to share ideas and ways forward. After each school shared their ideas, it was decided that the cluster would work on a project that was rich in skills across the science and Technology AOLE and had the four purposes at the forefront of the project. After much discussion the AOLE school leaders decided to plan and carry out a project titled 'City of the Future' based on creating a sustainable city of the future, using modern technology and that also addresses local and global environmental issues affecting the East side of Cardiff.
