Youth Advocacy Sparks District Climate Action

“We must act together now to create a better, more hopeful future that all children can look forward to and thrive within.” 

This is the last sentence of the 28-page Climate Action Proposal that the Youth Environmental Society (also known as “YES”) presented to the HVRSD Board of Education in March 2022. The proposal was the result of months of research, collaboration, writing, and advocacy to push our district to adopt our vision of a just and sustainable future.

Since the presentation of our Climate Action Proposal in 2022, student leaders in YES have been active participants in the district Climate Action Committee, providing valuable perspectives on the development of the HVRSD Climate Action Plan. 

In 2024, the Climate Action Committee presented its recommendations for a five-year plan of action to the Board of Education. A summary of those recommendations can be found here. The Committee is currently in year one of the plan's implementation.
