New Jersey Climate Education Timeline
In April 2020, the New Jersey State Board of Education adopted climate education standards across most subject areas K-12, making it the first in the nation to do so.
In June 2022, the New Jersey Education Hub, providing teaching resources for all subject areas K-12, launches.
In September 2022, the climate standards went into effect and teachers across the state began incorporating climate education into their classes.
In 2022-2023, Rutgers, TCNJ, and other educational institutions offered climate education professional development for teachers across subject areas K-12.
In September 2023, New Jersey established the Department of Climate Education.
In October 2023, NJSLS were expanded to include English Language Arts and Mathematics
In 2023, 6-12 HVRSD staff across all subject areas participated in climate change education professional development, led by students in the HVCHS Youth Environmental Society in collaboration with teachers in the HV Climate Education Cohort.
