Assessing Reading: Multiple Measures, Revised 2nd Edition provides a collection of various tests for skills related to reading. The assessments below can help identify why a student is having reading difficulty, determine what the next step in instruction should be to remediate that difficulty, and monitor progress throughout the course of instruction.
What do the results mean?
A student's level of performance is compared to end-of-year scores for each grade and are compiled by denoting test items correct. Phonological awareness is the understanding of the sound structure of language, including recognizing that sentences consist of words, words consist of syllables, and syllables can be broken into smaller units, such as phonemes. pg 9, The New Jersey Literacy Framework, May 2025.
CORE Phonological Segmentation Test: The assessment for grades K–1, is a phonological segmentation assessment that contains three parts: Sentences into Words, Words into Syllables, and Words into Phonemes.
