This past weekend was the inaugural Equity and Antiracism Resource Summit at Chabot College. AB/AR Schools of the Month were honored as well as many HUSD AB/AR Influencers. Two such Influencers didn't get their awards in person and yet they deserve public recognition. As such, please know that the Addressing Anti-Blackness in Education Award serves as a tribute to W.E.B. Du Bois's enduring legacy and his vision of education as a tool for liberation and social transformation. Through honoring those who continue his work, the award seeks to inspire future generations to carry forward the fight for racial justice and educational equity for all. Ashley Bell’s work expanding the MEHS BASU’s impact fostering empowerment and liberation; and Danae Griffin’s work spreading Black Joy directly challenging Anti-Blackness in the East Avenue community is greatly valued and appreciated by the HUSD AB/AR Initiative!!! See photos of the event here.
STUDENTS!!! AANHPI Heritage Month is a vital celebration that highlights the rich cultural tapestry, resilience, and contributions of Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities to the American narrative. AANHPI Heritage Month provides a platform to honor the diversity, history, and achievements of AANHPI individuals, while also advocating for social justice and equality. By promoting understanding and solidarity, it strengthens our bonds as a community and empowers us to combat discrimination, xenophobia, and injustices. Let's come together to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month and reaffirm our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social equity in our vibrant Hayward community!

HUSD Families/Community! Let's come together to honor and celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month this May. We invite you to engage in activities that highlight the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Take a moment to explore resources, watch videos like this one, and participate in tutorials that shed light on the diversity within the AANHPI community. Share stories with your child(ren) about the resilience and hope that exists in your families and communities. Encourage them to express themselves through art and other creative outlets, spreading messages of hope and unity to uplift others. Together, let's embrace the spirit of AANHPI Heritage Month and strengthen our bonds as a diverse and inclusive community!
