Theme of the Fortnight

Over the past two weeks, our "Theme of the Fortnight" has been 'Black History Month'. In assemblies pupils have learnt about important people of colour and the importance of respect, equality and the fact that no matter who you are, you should have the same rights and opportunities to achieve your dreams.

Our Theme for the next two weeks is a cultural theme around Mexico. The reason we have chosen Mexico is because we have a link to a school called 'Madison Campus Monterrey'. As an IB World School, we believe it is our responsibility to develop our pupils to not only be academically excellent but also global citizens who are prepared to be part of an increasingly connected world.

Leadership Drop-In Session

As a school, we recognise the vital importance of communication between home and school in providing all of students with the excellent education that they deserve. We strive to keep parents well informed regarding what happens at Hundred of Hoo through our fortnightly bulletins, MCAS announcements, our website, by being present at morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up and by replying to parental emails promptly, but continue to consider how else we can improve this.

Whilst we have regular parent voice questionnaires over the course of the year sent by the Central Leigh Academies Trust team, we would like to introduce Leadership Drop-In sessions for parents to be able to come and touch base with academy leaders; the first of which will take place in the Learning Lounge at the end of term 1 - 3.30pm - 4.00pm on Tuesday 18th October.

These sessions will be a further opportunity for you to be able to come and discuss any topics you wish to celebrate, to discuss any worries you may have that you have not had the opportunity to raise or to bring suggestions around how we could further improve our fantastic school.

This forum is by no means compulsory, but please do feel free to drop in and see us.

Parent Book Looks

In term 6 of the last academic year, we introduced parent book looks. These are the opportunity for you to see what your children have been working on in class in their inquiry books, skills books and Mathematics books.

We have organised these for these to take place for the following year groups on the following days and times:

Year 1 and 2 - Monday 17th October - 3.15pm - 4.00pm

Year 3 and 4 - Thursday 20th October - 3.15pm - 4.00pm

Year 5 and 6 - Friday 21st October - 3.15pm - 4.00pm

School Uniform

Over the past two weeks I have noticed an increase in pupils wearing clothing, footwear and accessories which would not be considered in line with our school uniform policy.

Whilst I understand that children grow quickly, it is important that all students wear correct uniform.

Please find re-shared the Parent and Pupil Handbook which was shared with all parents and carers at the start of the year, which outlines our school uniform, including PE kit, expectations on pages 13 and 14. We have also added this as an 'Important Document' onto MCAS.

Please note that for all students this includes black leather school shoes - not trainers of any kind unless otherwise agreed by the Primary Principal. The handbook also mentions that in terms of hairbands that these should be plain and not 'over-sized'.

Additionally, can I please remind you that earrings must be in the form of a plain stud and be removed for PE and that no other jewellery should be worn in school with the exception of watches which do not have the capacity to connect to the internet, take pictures or record sound or images.

We will shortly be facilitating a uniform 'swap-shop' whereby parents who have good quality, clean uniform can swap or donate this uniform to other parents to reduce costs and clothing waste.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation with this.
