The children across the school have been working on embedding and extending their place value and applying their skills. The children have used a range of practical resources and visual representations as well as their written work.
Year 1
Year 1 have been working on comparing and ordering numbers. They are beginning to use the greater than > and less than < symbols to record their answers.
Year 3
Year 3 have also used the < > symbols to compare numbers within 1000. They have used resources to represent the different numbers. They have moved onto adding and subtracting 100, 10 and 1s from 3 digit numbers.
Year 5
Year 5 have worked on the place value of 5-digit numbers, representing the numbers using different place value representations alongside the use of practical resources.

Numbots
This year we have introduced Numbots to EYFS and KS1. NumBots is an online game and playing little and often will significantly improve your child’s recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. These are critical foundations in maths so we are excited by the impact NumBots will have.Your child should have their Numbots log in, if not please contact your child’s class teacher. This can be played online at https://numbots.com/ or on the free downloadable app.
If your older child needs a little more practice with their addition and subtraction facts, the log in for Numbots is the same as the TTRS log in.
Times Table Rockstars
The children’s use of Times Table Rockstars in Year 2 to Year 6 in school and at home has continued to support their rapid recall of times tables. The best way for children to use this is to spend around 5 - 10 minutes a day practising.
To encourage the pupils to regularly log into TTRS or Numbots, we will be running weekly competitions in school and special competitions at different times throughout the year. Each week, the pupil with the most correct answers in each class will receive a certificate.
1-Minute Maths App
Don’t forget the 1-minute maths app which is available to download for free.
1-minute maths offers children engaging and easily accessible practice in basic number, covering the topics of subitising, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. There’s no specific route or starting point. Having chosen a topic, each user answers a series of randomly generated questions. When the one minute’s up, the questions are automatically marked and presented on a breakdown screen, giving instant feedback on how they’ve done.
