Geography this term has been intertwined within our PYP learning, in a number of classes. Providing children with lots of opportunities to go and explore the school, our local area and the wider world through nature walks, google maps, pictures and the use of Atlases and Globes.
Da Vinci Class
The children were about to observe a number of pictures of Hoo and spot all their favourite areas, including the church, shops and school. They used this information to create their own maps of Hoo and draw how they get to school from their homes. They also went on a nature walk around the school site and during their continuous provision they redraw they walk using autumn colours.
Berners Lee Class
Our Year 1 class has been engaged in learning about why, how and when maps and compasses are used and who might use them. They were able to go on a walk around the school grounds using a map that had been created. They were about to follow the map by finding key features in the school groups that are plotted on the map. The children then had the opportunity to create their own versions of compasses.
Cousteau Class
Year 2 have been looking at our local area through pictures and maps. They have been able to identify the different features of our area and explain the difference between a village, town and city. The children then explained why certain animals should live in certain habitats in our local area.
