Term 1
Message from Mr Etheridge
As we have reached the end of Module 1 it is my pleasure to share our Bumper Bulletin. This is our opportunity to share some positive messages, let you know some of the events which have taken place over the last module and to inform you about important information which you need to know for Module 2.
This module has been full of excellent learning, both academically and personally, interesting trips, visits and visitors and confirmation of the superb progress that the children make at our school over time.
Make sure you take a look at the new PYP boards on this newsletter which show what your children have been learning this module. These are more of a bitesize look at lines of our IB lines of inquiry rather than a deep dive into each subject and could be used to spark discussion with your child about what they have learnt over the last 7 weeks.
Below you will see some examples of our co-curriculum and how we provide opportunities for the children at Leigh Academy Hundred of Hoo to become "More than just educated". By engaging in these types of events, we develop a greater understanding of the world and encourage children to be global citizens and internationally minded.

Road Safety Advice
Please see below a message from Kent Police in relation to road safety.
"Our aim is to ensure that the young people of the Peninsula are safe, as part of this we need your help in keeping them safe when they are heading to and from school.
Parking restrictions are put in place around schools to give good visibility allowing pedestrians to see to cross the road
To ensure this, please be responsible, following the restrictions, such as not stopping on the zig-zags around the schools, being mindful of your speed and making sure that your child is visible, as the nights get darker.
We will be around the schools at various points, so please come and say hello.
PCs Richard Jones and Josh Waterman”
Harvest Festival
We are incredibly proud to see our students demonstrating the IB Learner Profile attributes of being both Caring and Principled during our Harvest Festival. Their thoughtful contributions showed great care and compassion for others by taking responsibility for supporting the less fortunate.
Thanks to your amazing generosity, we collected a record number of items for Hoo St Werburgh Church, who then shared the toiletries and food donations between the Women's Refuge and the Hygiene Bank. Seeing our community come together to support the local community was truly heart-warming. Thank you for helping our students understand the value of helping others!
Banji Alexander Author Visit
We were thrilled to welcome author and teacher Banji Alexander to our school this module. Banji captivated the children as he shared his incredible journey to becoming an author, including how his passion for storytelling led him to publish his debut book. He also gave us a behind-the-scenes look at his and his class’s amazing experience starring on Britain’s Got Talent — a true celebration of creativity and teamwork!
Banji modelled the key attributes of successful learning: perseverance, curiosity, resilience and self-belief — and showed how these helped him achieve his goals. The children were inspired by his story and left feeling motivated to chase their own dreams.
A huge thank you to all the parents who supported the day with such style — your fancy hats and fabulous shoes really added to the fun! Banji was so impressed with everyone’s effort and said it made his visit extra special!
Year R recognised the similarities and differences everbody has.
Black History Month
This month, our children took time to reflect on Black History by exploring the incredible contributions made by Black people from across the globe. From inventors and artists to leaders and changemakers, we highlighted stories that represent a rich tapestry of cultures, countries and continents.
We also created space for children's questions, encouraging them to think deeply, share their thoughts and explore with curiosity. These thoughtful discussions, paired with creative activities, helped foster understanding, respect and an appreciation for the diverse world we live in.
