Message from Mr Etheridge
This academic year has been one full of physical and personal growth. As a school we have continued to increase in size with nearly double the number of children and staff compared to this time just four years ago. Whilst the school has become busier and more popular, we have managed to maintain and build on the attributes which make The Hundred of Hoo Primary as special as it is.
We have introduced changes to lunch and breaktimes to ensure that children across different year groups and ages have the opportunity to play together and learn from each other; we have introduced a pupil employment scheme which provides older children the opportunity to be role-models to younger pupils and we have built on our house events which draw children together and help them to recognise the importance of working together in a team.
We have provided more opportunities than ever before for children to engage in activities outside of the curriculum including after-school clubs, tutoring, increased school trips, visitors, additional music lessons and residential.
Moreover, there have been more invitations for parents and carers to join us in school to celebrate learning with your children; get involved in activities related to lines of inquiry; access workshops and support with our school counsellor and pastoral team and to take the oppportunity to speak to the Primary leadership team about your worries, concerns and suggestions.
By developing and growing these elements, we continue to build an all-important sense of community which helps all of our stakeholders to feel a sense of pride about our school; and there is a lot to feel proud about.
Yet again, we have achieved outcomes which are expected to be above the national measure in GLDs, phonics, the Year 4 Multiplication Times Table check and are confirmed to be, not only above the national average for Key Stage 2 SATs, but our best set of results ever achieved - a huge achievement.
99.3% of all behaviour points have been positive points with just 0.7% reflecting undesirable incidents.
Our children are becoming more confident, more caring and absolutely embodying our vision of being 'more than just educated'.
But the journey really is just beginning! Next year as we leave the name "The Hundred of Hoo Academy" behind and become "Leigh Academy Hundred of Hoo" we enter a new chapter in our history and I know it's going to be an even better read than the last one!
I wish you all a very peaceful, restful and safe summer break and am very excited to see you back in September.
Mr Etheridge
