At the Leigh Academy Rainham we implement the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) which is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, developing lifelong learners that are internationally minded.
The MYP framework ensures that pupils develop into inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The MYP unit planning sheet ties together the fundamental principles of the MYP which are Key concept (Big idea), Related Concepts (Promote Deep Learning) and Global Contexts (Why it matters). These 3 principles link together to form one overall Statement of Inquiry which underpins the learning that will take place, through structured inquiry, throughout the scheme. It also sets the conceptual understanding in the global context that pupil will explore over a sequence of lessons.
At LAR Academy we ask that you follow the MYP Unit Plan and the LAR Planning Framework to deliver MYP lessons that promote structured inquiry within a framework that is underpinned by our Establishing Excellence Drivers. Expectations on how MYP is implemented in lessons will evolve throughout our first year as we develop our curriculum.
Our MYP Implementation Crib sheet below outlines what we would expect to see in LAR MYP Lessons.
