Intro to Theatre

Unit 1-2: Vocabulary/Mime Pantomime/Lip Sync

Week 1, January 5-9

Classroom norms, get to know each other, basic vocabulary, get onstage ASAP!

• • I use this week to get to know my new students and get them on the stage as soon as possible. My goal is for all students to be used to being on the stage immediately so when they perform it is less scary.

• Monday: Holiday, Staff workday

• Tuesday: Learn classroom procedures, expectations, and tour the theater.

  • Take home procedure/expectation packet to be signed

• Wednesday: What to do/What not to do scene activity

• Thursday: First half of class we will learn basic theatre vocabulary

• Friday: Upstage/downstage & Pictionary

Week 2, January 12-16

• • Monday: Acting Etiquette/Audience etiquette notes followed by 4 rehearsed improv scenes on the do's and do not's of acting/audience etiquette

  • Tuesday: Mime & Pantomime Lesson

  • Wednesday: Act out scenes

    • If you missed a day of notes this will be your time to make up all missing notes.

  • Thursday: Study Stations

  • Friday: Open Note Exam

Week 3, January 19-23

• • Monday: Martin Luther King, Jr Day- Holiday

  • Tuesday: Intro to Lip Sync

    • Divide into groups, begin selecting up to 3 songs you could be comfortable doing as your assignment. No phones may be used in this process, but groups may take turns on the newlines or go from their own memory of songs. (I believe in you!)

  • Wednesday: Begin memorizing lyrics, Lyrics due

  • Thursday: Continue Memorizing Lyrics

  • Friday: Memorize Lyrics/Lyric Check (formative)- students do not have to sing the lyrics, just say them.

Week 4, January 26-30

• Lip Sync Project

  • Monday-Wednesday: Continue rehearsing Lip Sync & finalize all choreography/props/costumes.

  • Thursday: Students will perform for their peers & receive feedback (Students complete a Glow/Grow handout for a formative grade)

  • Friday: Lip Sync Performance - Rubric HERE

    • And a Child Shall Lead Campus  Performance at 7 pm

Unit 2: Fairytale scenes & Characterization

Week 5, February 2-6

Introduce Characterization/Scenes

• Monday: Characterization notes, Packet Review, assignment timeline, review rubric.

• Tuesday: Character Profile, Rehearse

• Wednesday: Givens/Place, Rehearse

• Thursday: Objectives/Tactics, Rehearse

• Friday: Field Testing for 6th Grade. Objectives/Tactics Continued, Rehearse, Turn in Character Profile

Week 6, February 16-20

• Monday: Rehearsal Stations, Review Givens/Place, Objectives/ Tactics (due tomorrow)

• Tuesday: Rehearsal Stations, Moment Before (due Friday)

• Wednesday: Rehearsal Stations, memorize lines (Friday- line check, quiz grade)

• Thursday: Rehearsal Stations, memorize lines (Friday- line check, quiz grade)

• Friday: Rehearsal Stations, Line check 

Week 7, February 23-27

• Monday: Rehearsal Stations

• Tuesday: Dress rehearsal complete Glow & Grow (due Wed)

• Wednesday: Continue dress rehearsal/improve scenes with last rehearsals. 

• Thursday: Begin performing our Fairy Tale scenes for a summative grade.

• Friday: Complete performing our Fairy Tale scenes for a summative grade.

Unit 5: A Christmas Carol

Week 4, Nov 9-14, 2025

Theatre Games/Introduce A Christmas Carol

• Monday: Theatre games

• Tuesday: Theatre Games

• Wednesday: Students take turns reading scenes from "A Christmas Carol" in class.

• Thursday: Students take turns reading scenes from "A Christmas Carol" in class and tell Lange preferred scenes.

• Friday: Scenes assigned

Week 5, Nov 17-21, 2025

• Monday: Rehearsal stations, character analysis

• Tuesday: Rehearsal stations, character analysis due, begin objectives/tactics worksheet.

• Wednesday: Rehearsal stations

• Thursday: Rehearsal stations

• Friday: Rehearsal stations, Line Check

  • Wicked: For Good Premiere!!!! (Lange is seeing this at midnight and will not be able to discuss the amazing film without crying)

Week 6, Dec 1-5, 2025

• Monday: Rehearsal stations

• Tuesday: Rehearsal Stations

• Wednesday: Dress Rehearsal, glow/grow

• Thursday: Improve performances

• Friday: PERFORM

  • Holiday PJ party 4:00-6:30

Unit 4: Greek Theatre

Week 1, 10/20-10/24

Complete Tech Design/Intro to Greek Theatre

• Monday: Continue working on set design

• Tuesday: Complete and turn in set design (take home today)

• Wednesday: Introduce elements of Greek Theatre & Plato's "Poetics"

• Thursday: Assign Greek Scenes to students, cast production.

• Friday: Scoring script, rehearsal stations.

Week 2, 10/27-10/31

• Monday: Rehearsal stations, character analysis

• Tuesday: Rehearsal stations, character analysis due, begin objectives/tactics worksheet.

• Wednesday: Rehearsal stations, Line Check

• Thursday: Rehearsal stations, objectives/tactics due, Prepare scary story assignment

  • One Act Play Information meeting after school 4-4:45

• Friday: Scary stories!!!

Week 3, 11/3-11/7

• Monday: Rehearsal stations

• Tuesday: Rehearsal Stations

• Wednesday: Dress Rehearsal, glow/grow

• Thursday: Improve performances
