The Michael G. Meyers Design & Scholarship Competition is an annual event sponsored by the Architecture Center Houston Foundation, AIA Houston, and local architecture firms and affiliates. This is an idea competition with an emphasis on creative problem-solving and graphic presentation.
This year, students in the Architectural Design Classes are allowed to participate in representing Summer Creek at the competition. Students held a mock competition in the Fall, designing a complete project as professional Architects would. This competition allows students to gain scholarship opportunities as well as experience what a real career is like in Architecture.
The 2024 MGM competition has officially kicked off as of January 20th! This year students are tasked with creating a library designed on one of the six subjects of STEAM. Students are required to again incorporate four different types of sustainability strategies into their design, while choosing from 3 different lot types! They are asked to incorporate outdoor spaces, surrounding areas architecture, living situations of the local residents, and more while being innovative in both the building and environmental design of the lot.
This year Tiny House is not just sending 1 team, but 8 teams of 3-4 people from the design and practicum classes! They will compete with many other teams from other high schools and outside future architects.
PLS UPLOAD PAST PICS TO CARASOUL THING
This was a simulation competition using the same rules and structure as the real MGM event used as practice in the Design I, II, and practicum classes. During this competition, students were to build a education center focused on educating the public about sustainability efforts, as well as serving the community. Students were given a 37,500 sq ft lot with 10ft setbacks, with the requirement of two sustainability practices incorporated within the building. Students then had to make drawings, renders, models, posters, a narrative within 6 weeks of the start date. It was a rush!
The Mock Design Competition included 5 teams and 31 architecture students
