Welcome Back, Hudson!
Thank you to all Hudson families, friends, and staff who joined us back in September for our Welcome Back BBQ. We were greeted with sunny skies, warm weather, and delicious food (a big shoutout to the Huskies Kitchen team!), it was a wonderful way to kick off the school year.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day) 🧡
On September 30th, we observed National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. Our community came together to honour residential school survivors and celebrate Indigenous cultures.
Hudson Justice League did an amazing job organizing the Upper School assembly and Walk for Wenjack. The Lower School Truth and Reconciliation Committee did an amazing job organizing the (very successful!) bake sale fundraiser and t-shirt raffle for the Downie-Wenjack Foundation, where they ended up raising over $1,110!

Grade 7 Orientation Day
Our new & returning Grade 7s kicked off the year by getting to know their teachers, playing games, and bonding through fun icebreakers!
Grade 7 and 8 Camp Olympia Trip
Our Grade 7s and 8s had an incredible time at Olympia Sports Camp! From kayaking and canoeing to high ropes, beach volleyball, and even a giant swing – they built memories, friendships, and skills that will last a lifetime ✨
Terry Fox School Run 2025
We came together in September under sunny skies to honour Terry Fox’s legacy as part of the Terry Fox School Run 2025!
Hudson students ran (and walked!) in support of Terry’s mission to raise funds for cancer research, proving that together, we can Finish It.

Fish, Bears, and Birds – Oh, My!
Our Grades 1-4 classes had an amazing time exploring The Toronto Zoo earlier this semester! Students got to see all kinds of animals, and our Grade 4s even took part in a hands-on workshop all about habitats and human influences. In this workshop, they identified animal diets through skulls, took part in a food chain challenge, and learned all about how humans impact ecosystems during a tour of the Indo-Malaya Pavilion.

Grade 4–6 Camp Muskoka Trip
Our Grade 4, 5, and 6 students had a blast at Camp Muskoka – they engaged in everything from team-building games to the infamous Aerial Park to fire-building and orienteering! Students even learned useful outdoor survival skills which included building shelters, filtering water, starting fires, and navigating the wilderness with a compass.
Every evening ended with a campfire, singing, and s’mores under the stars...the PERFECT way to wrap up a week full of laughter, teamwork, and lasting memories between new and old friends 🫶

Remembrance Day Ceremony
On November 11, our Lower School community came together for our annual Remembrance Day ceremony. Students honoured the day by creating artwork in tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country, which they laid at the front of the gym as part of the ceremony.
Later that day, Madame Butscher and her Grade 7 and 8 student helpers created a display in our main foyer featuring the students’ artwork. Families were invited to visit throughout the week to view the art, and to pause and reflect.
Grade 8 High School Experience Day
In early November, our Grade 8 students got a sneak peek into high school life with hands-on, teacher-led workshops in Science, Math, the Arts, and more!
From squid dissections in Science to 3-point lighting and portrait photography in Media Arts, ice cream making in Chemistry, gesture drawing in Visual Arts, physics experiments, and more – it was a morning packed with discovery (and a lot of excitement) for the journey ahead.

SSAF CHAMPIONS 🏆
Congratulations to our U14 Girls Basketball team for bringing home the gold at this year’s SSAF Championships!
After a tense 27-24 win in the semifinals, the girls moved on to the championship game. The final featured a lot of great plays and was a very tight defensive game.
It all came down to the final minute, when Sam M. scored the winning basket to secure the championship, winning 25-23!
Annual Door Decorating Contest
This year’s annual Lower School Door Decorating Contest was a super close one! Our students’ festive, creative brains were activated, bringing the hallways to life with fun, imaginative, and even interactive holiday-themed door designs.

Our Lower School Holiday Concerts were showcases of our JK–Grade 8 students’ musical, dramatic, and comedic talents. Audience members enjoyed festive musical performances, elaborate dances, and even skits from our senior classes.

Grade 9 Camp Trip 🌲
This year’s Grade 9 Trip to Camp Wenonah was one for the books!
For three sunny days, students stayed up north on beautiful Clear Lake. They tried out high ropes and rock climbing, headed out on the water on kayaks and canoes, and even learned survival skills like fire building and shelter making!
Big shoutout to Ms. Streff, Mr. McMaster, Matilda, and our amazing Grade 12 leaders – Anke, Henry, Levent, and Sofia – for keeping the trip running smoothly and making it truly unforgettable!
Grade 10 & 11 Leadership Camp
Our Grade 10s and 11s had a great time at this year’s Leadership Program at Camp Couchiching 🌲
Through outdoor activities like climbing walls, high ropes, and archery, as well as team building challenges and leadership games, students grew their confidence, learned what it means to be a true leader, and, of course, had a blast doing it!

Grade 12 University Fairs
We hosted three University Fairs this fall, welcoming schools from across Canada – including the University of Toronto, McMaster University, Dalhousie University, University of Guelph, Wilfred Laurier University, University of Waterloo, and more!
Students made the most of it, connecting with reps, asking great questions, and getting ready for application season!
U20 Boys Volleyball
Our U20 Boys Volleyball team had an amazing season full of grit, teamwork, endurance, and fun. Great job, Huskies!
Pep Rally ❤️💙💜💚
This year’s Upper School Pep Rally was a huge success!
The energy in the gym was higher than ever as each House took the stage to perform their cheers – with some even pulling off full-on skits! The day wrapped up with an exciting House vs. House basketball game that had everyone cheering for their House team – it ended being a nail-biter that ended in a tie!

U20 Golf Championships
Congratulations to our U20 Golf team on earning the bronze medal at this year’s tournament – an incredible effort from our Huskies, finishing 3rd out of 10 teams!
SSAF U16/U20 Track and Field Championships
Congratulations to our U20 and U16 teams for their outstanding performance at this year's SSAF Cross Country Championships🏃♀️🏃♂️
Our U16 girls took first place in the team competition, with Gabby V. finishing 2nd and Cora 4th. Our U20 boys finished 2nd overall – special congrats to Eddie who placed 3rd!

Grade 12 University of Toronto Tour
In early November, our Grade 12s spent the day exploring University of Toronto guided by several of our own Hudson alumni! Despite the rain, the fall colours and moody weather gave the whole campus a perfect dark academia feel 📚
Alums Mayde (’24), Nour (’23), Julian (’22), and Ivan (’24) led small groups on personalized tours, sharing insights into life at U of T and their favourite spots on campus. Afterward, students attended a one-hour Latin tutorial with a U of T professor – learning a brief history of the language, proper pronunciation, and even the Latin versions of their own names!

Model UN at SSUNS in Montréal
Our Model UN delegates headed to Montréal in November for their second SSUNS (Secondary Schools' United Nations Symposium) conference! They immersed themselves in delegate-led discussions, mingled with students from around the country, and explored the beautiful McGill University campus.
A special congratulations to Joey for receiving the honourable mention for Outstanding Delegate in his crisis committee (where they discussed, debated, and reached a resolution on the Siege of Quebec 1775)!
Hudson College Model UN Conference
Our Senior Model UN delegates hosted Hudson’s inaugural HCMUN Conference in November – and it was a huge success! Grade 8s from the Lower School joined in for their first-ever taste of Model UN in a Lower x Upper School collaboration.
The full-day event featured four committee sessions, a delegate social, and an awards ceremony (mini gavels included!). Committees tackled topics ranging from women’s rights to ocean exploration to preventing drug trafficking.

Grade 9 English Trip to Stratford
Our Grade 9 English classes travelled to Stratford for Stratford Festival and experienced an incredible reimagining of Macbeth!
Debate Team Trip to Ottawa Debate Tournament
Our Upper School Debate Team had an incredible weekend at the University of Ottawa High School Debate Tournament! After a strong first day with two teams topping the preliminary rounds, our debaters wrapped up the competition with valuable experience and lots of memories.
Justice League Fashion Show
The Hudson Justice League hosted their fourth annual JL Fashion Show with this year’s theme being “Arrested Development”.
In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, all proceeds from ticket sales will support the work of Red Door Family Shelter. Red Door focuses on providing emergency shelter and support for women and children affected by domestic abuse.
Congratulations to the incredible Justice League team, designers, and models... we can’t wait to see what you come up with next year!

Grade 11 and 12 McMaster University Tour
Our Grade 11s and 12s spent the day discovering McMaster University – from rare plants to real lectures to alumni-led campus tours!
The day kicked off at the beautiful McMaster Biology Greenhouse, where students got a close look at rare, unusual, and even a few dangerous plant species.
Next stop was a first-year university lecture, ENV: Intro to Environmental Issues, where they learned about ecosystems, biodiversity, and how environmental challenges shape our world.
To cap off the day, Hudson Alums Kane (’21, Life Sciences), Nada (’23, Commerce), and Spencer (’25, Computer Science) guided small group tours, sharing insider tips and their favourite spots on Mac campus.

Grade 9 and 10 Distillery Winter Market Trip
Our Grade 9s and 10s had a blast at this year’s annual Distillery Winter Market trip 🎄
From exploring the stalls to sipping fancy hot chocolates and picking up a few special gifts (see: Jellycats), it was the perfect start to the holiday season. See the day through a student’s eyes – shoutout to Diya and Chloe in Grade 10 and Em in Grade 12 (and our little Hudson digi cam) for capturing these cute shots!
Annual Hudson Holiday Potluck
Our annual Upper School Holiday Potluck was a delightful (and delicious) success!
After an exciting House vs. House basketball tournament, students made their way to the cafeteria for one of our favourite holiday traditions. They were greeted by the amazing Jam Club, who serenaded everyone in line with festive tunes and created a perfect holiday ambiance.
From turkey, empanadas, burgers, and mac and cheese to Mr. Gaffen’s famous homemade fudge, donuts, tarts, and so much – SO MUCH – more, the spread was unbelievable this year. Nothing brings our community together quite like sharing food made with love and care!
A huge thank-you to Matilda, Ms. Streff, and Mr. McMaster for organizing this year’s feast, and to all the teachers who helped with set up, serving, cleaning up, and everything in between.
