Welcome to the Husky Howler!
A look back on the latest from the Hudson community.
We raised $23,900 for the Terry Fox Foundation!
Our students proudly took part in our 21st Annual Terry Fox School Run to continue working toward Terry's dream of a world without cancer.
A big thank you to all parents, guardians, and friends of Hudson for your generous support: we surpassed our ambitious goal and raised over $23,900! We especially appreciate our Terry Fox Organizer Mrs. Budning for rallying everyone together.
Check out what our Lower School students shared about Terry Fox's legacy or listen to what Grade 12 Justice League prefect Audrey had to say about the important role community fundraising plays in continuing Terry's mission.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
In late September, we observed National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. The Hudson community came together to honour residential school survivors and celebrate Indigenous cultures, taking a meaningful step toward reconciliation.
We also want to extend our thanks to our Lower School Truth and Reconciliation Committee and Lower School families for raising over $900 for the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) through a bake sale and orange t-shirt raffle.Β
If you missed out, you can donate on the DWF website here β your support makes a difference!
Halloween at Hudson πΒ
It's tradition to go ALL OUT for Halloween at Hudson!
In the Lower School, each class must collaborate to execute a squash masterpiece for the Pumpkin Carving Competition. Grade 2 wowed the judges with its Ziggy Stardust creation and spooky supporting cast of apple-headed hair metal rockers, while Mr Burlock's Grade 7 class took the senior prize with an eerily inspired interpretation of Edvard Munch's "The Scream."
Upper School celebrates Halloween Spirit week, usually consisting of themed Dress Down Days, games and trivia with prizes to be won, a costume contest, and pumpkin carving on Halloween Day!Β
Happy Campers
Grade 4, 5, and 6 had an action-packed visit to Camp Muskoka! On the first day, students settled in with team-building activities and a game called "Predator and Prey," where they learned about animal survival skills within an ecosystem (with teachers playing the role of natural disasters). After a tasty dinner, they enjoyed campfire songs and stories before bedtime.
Day 2 was all about survival skills. Students learned to build fires, construct shelters, and even create water filtration systems. The highlight was the Aerial Park, where students challenged themselves on the ropes courses and ziplines.
On the final day, the kids showed off their archery skills, with many hitting the bullseye. They enjoyed the classic "Camp Muskoka Blanket," tossing each other into the air. The afternoon was spent navigating an orienteering course through the forest, using compasses to find checkpoints. With memories and new skills to share, everyone returned tired and happy from their time in the woods.
Grades 7 and 8 took an exciting trip to Camp Kandalore, where they immersed themselves in a variety of outdoor adventures. Rotating through activities like rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and navigating high ropes, students developed skills and confidence along the way.Β
Each evening featured a special team-building activity, with the final night wrapping up in style with a Talent Show and a cozy bonfire, bringing everyone together for a memorable end to the trip.
Β Minding our Beeswax
Grades 2 and 3 dipped into the world of bees with a hands-on AlvΓ©ole beeswax workshop! Students learned about the importance of honey bees to our ecosystem and made beeswax candles to take home π
Hudson Hudskies x Withrow Cup
Our cross-country team showed incredible spirit competing against 10 other schools at the Withrow Cup. Coaches Ms Beach and Ms Brantley were proud to see everyone finishing with their best foot forward. Special congratulations to Claire for placing 3rd, Kingston in 6th, and James in 14th.
Thank you to Hudson parent Dale Wilcox for capturing the event!Β

Each House came together to ideate, choreograph, and perform their cheers, all in a fierce and friendly competition to prove who has the most House pride. The day wrapped up with a House vs. House basketball game that had students on their feet cheering nonstop for their teams!
Check out all of the photos from the Pep Rally here (password: gohuskies)!
During Halloween Spirit Week (October 28β31), we embraced Halloween with a new dress-down theme each day! We started with 90s/2000s Day, followed by Dress-Your-Year Day, where each grade wore their assigned themes: Grade 9s were Barbies and Kens, Grade 10s were Superheroes, Grade 11s were Supervillains, and Grade 12s were Candy! The day after, students were asked to coordinate an outfit with a friend that rhymed (i.e. a cat and a rat). The day after Halloween was the classic and cozy Pyjama Day!
Throughout the week, students played games like Cricket Crunching Trivia and Candy Apple Roulette (an annual Hudson tradition!).

Welcoming Sayi & Pawel to the Upper School Team!
Sayi Panandiker β French Teacher
Born and raised in Goa, Sayi is a passionate polyglot with a deep love for language learning and discovering connections between different languages. Before moving to Canada in 2023, she worked in India with students from diverse communities, bringing her inclusive and vibrant approach to education. Sayi believes that speaking is one of the most crucial elements in mastering a new language and strives to make her classes engaging and practical. Her immigrant background allows her to empathize with the challenges students face when learning a foreign language, and she uses this experience to support them with effective strategies and cultural insights. In addition to her degrees, Sayi holds a certificate in Portuguese as a second language. Outside of teaching, Sayi enjoys cooking, reading, crocheting, and doodling; she is also in the process of writing a book about her homeland.Β
Pawel Wilczynski β English and Drama Teacher
Pawel brings over a decade of teaching experience to Hudson College. He prides himself on making learning memorable and endearing to all kinds of learners, providing them with skills that will endure through an ever-changing and challenging world. Having immigrated to Canada as a child, he quickly fell in love with English literature and taught himself to play piano. This allowed him to see the value and reward in self-motivated learning and initiative. He was already play-acting the role of English teacher with his sister and spent almost as much time analyzing books for fun as reading them. He is also passionate about his own writing, including poetry and a fantasy adventure novel. He finds a deep analysis of literature extremely rewarding and enjoys connecting it to other disciplines while nurturing students' creativity, confidence, and curiosity. He is also an experienced director of school plays, drama clubs, and public speaking and debate competitions. A passionate film, music, and theatre fan, he enjoys bringing these artworks to his lessons and extracurricular activities, while instilling a collaborative approach among students. When not in the classroom, he enjoys being in nature, hiking and canoeing, and is an enthusiastic video gamer.Β
