Welcome to the Husky Howler!
A look back on the latest from the Hudson community.
Holiday Spirit at Hudson ❄️
Our Annual Upper School Holiday Spirit Week was a success!
Students had a blast with this year’s Dress-Down themes, including Tourists on Vacay, Holiday Colours, PJ Day, and the last (and most exciting!): Ugly Holiday Sweaters! This year, we even had some of our House Council members deliver Candy Grams.
The House vs. House Volleyball Tournament was a nail-biter — it’s safe to say that we have some seriously talented volleyball players here at Hudson. Congratulations to the Prairies for being the winners of this year’s tournament.
We then all headed to the cafeteria for the potluck — a Hudson Holiday classic! Students all brought a dish and we shared in a delicious feast of turkey, empanadas, burgers, pasta, specialty fudge made by Mr. Gaffen, donuts, tarts, and much, much more!
A massive thank-you to Matilda, Ms. Streff, and Mr. McMaster for your invaluable contributions to the organization of this annual event, it wouldn’t have been such a success without you all.
Spirit Week was a blast for our Lower School students — from crazy hair and hats to a cozy pyjama day, the holiday cheer has been non-stop 🎉
A huge shoutout to our Bake Sale Committee for raising $1,159 in support of Abbeyfield Canada (and special thanks to Ms. Humphrey for corralling the tasty treats).
Remembrance Day Assembly
Lower School students honoured Remembrance Day by creating artwork in tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country.
After the Remembrance Day assembly, Madame Butscher and her Grade 7 helpers curated a meaningful display in our main foyer. Lest we forget.
Hey, Hudson... Who's Got Talent?
This year’s Hudson’s Got Talent was a massive success – take a look at our highlight reel here!
Incredible performances all around, and a huge congratulations to Gaëlle, Sadie, and The Raging Flames — we already can’t wait for next year!
For some extra viewing, check out this video created by our Upper School Social Media Ambassadors, who had a chance to sit down with a few of the talent show performers — including The Raging Flames and members of the Jam Club. They shared their passions and how their talent impacts their lives!
Grade 8 Visit Day
Our Grade 8 students got a sneak peek into the world of high school with teacher-led workshops highlighting our Science, Math, and Arts programs. They also received advice and insights from current Upper School students! It was a morning full of excitement and anticipation for the journey ahead.

Model UN Goes To Montréal
Our senior Model UN delegates had the opportunity to experience their first Secondary Schools' United Nations Symposium (SSUNS) conference in Montréal! They immersed themselves in important delegate-led discussions and even explored the scenic McGill University campus, where they met up with Hudson alumni Ava (‘24) and Gabriella (‘23). Check out this vlog, created by our delegates, to experience SSUNS 2024 firsthand!
Throughout the conference, they discussed complex global issues in their committees, debating topics such as the climate crisis and the consequences on developing nations, the conservation of wildlife, and even stepped back into 2001 to work on solving the infamous McMillions Heist. The delegates collaborated with each other and resolved issues in the span of four days, handing in resolution papers and directives to the chairs of their committees.
Thank you to SSUNS for hosting such an exciting and enriching weekend... our delegates are already counting down to next year’s conference!
Remembrance Day Assembly
Lieutenant-Colonel Jaime Phillips visited our Upper School students for a memorable Remembrance Day ceremony. Drawing from her career with the Canadian Army, LCol Phillips shared her inspiring journey, which began when she graduated from Royal Military College.
In 2007, at 24, she became the first female Artillery Troop Commander in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She spoke to our students about the history of women in lead roles in the Canadian military, which had students thoroughly engaged. LCol Phillips also shared insights into her more recent work, including serving on a UN peacekeeping mission in Mali — a dream for her over 20 years in the making!
Thank you, LCol Phillips, for taking the time to speak with our students, share your stories and experiences, and answer their questions.
The Hudson Justice League hosted their third annual fashion show, challenging societal norms with the theme “All Dolled Up.” The show aimed to critique how women are often treated like dolls who are expected to fit rigid beauty and behavioural standards.
In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women earlier that week, all proceeds from ticket sales went to supporting the work of Shelter Movers.
Congratulations to the incredible Justice League team, designers, and models — you’ve outdone yourselves by using fashion and art to advocate for change. We can’t wait to see what you come up with next year!
SSAF Athletics at Hudson
Both our Boys U20 Volleyball team and Girls U20 Basketball team had amazing SSAF seasons:
Our BU20 Volleyball team had seven wins and ended up in 2nd overall in the whole SSAF league — goooo Huskies!
Our GU20 Basketball team made it all the way to the Playoff Semi Finals with four wins total — what an amazing achievement. Congratulations, girls!
We're also looking forward to two new seasons beginning first thing in January: Girls U20 Volleyball and Boys U20 Basketball The first GU20 Volleyball game is on January 9th and BU20 Basketball season begins on the week of January 13th.
Check out these highlights from the Grade 9 Distillery District trip 🎄
Our Grade 9s kicked off the trip with a thought-provoking walking tour that taught them all about the rich and complex history of how the Distillery District came to be. While on the tour, the most delicate and fluffy snowfall began — it was as picturesque as you’re imagining it to be!
Afterwards, students were then allowed to go explore the Distillery Winter Village - and all of its sweet treats, of course. Even some of our staff members (hi, Ms. Streff!) tried out one of the elaborate hot chocolate concoctions on offer. Some students even had the opportunity to take photos with Santa himself!
Thank you to Go Tours Canada for the guided tour, our students had a great time learning more about Toronto’s vast history — and thank you to Ms. Streff, Mr. McMaster and Matilda for being our fantastic organizers and chaperones for this exciting excursion.
