Light Switch Design

Problem Statement:

• Design and Machine a switch plate for a light switch

Constraints:

• Cannot be larger than 5x5x.25 in dimension.

These pictures show CAD designing stage and the CAM pathways for the machining stage of the project, taking the design I created and mapping it onto a piece of wood before cutting out the desired shape.

My design was inspired by one of my close friends, as he got me into and loves a game called Red Dead Redemption, the stylistic choices taken in my design were because it is meant as a gift for my friend, originally made for christmas the project took longer than expected. The design had certain challenges to the machining and designing process, originally the design was more detailed but that had to be simplified down as the bit wasn't exact enough to allow for such details. In the CAM software I also struggled to get the proper machine cycle, eventually opting for a layered method and wider holes to make for an easier process, in the end the design came out well and it will hopefully make a satisfactory gift.
