Summer Rental Program
Summer Rental Program Overview
The Hillsborough Board of Education is offering students in Grades 5-11 the opportunity to rent their district issued Chromebook over the summer.
The rental fee is $25 and includes a Summer Rental Protection Plan that covers the Chromebook between June 19, 2024, and September 5, 2024. The Summer Rental Protection Plan covers repair and replacement costs if the device is accidentally broken, damaged, or stolen over the summer.
Summer Rental Program Details
Students who rent the device will be able to continue to use their HTPS accounts on the device. The Chromebook will remain filtered using the district’s Internet filtering solutions and restrictions; however, parents should be aware that no system is perfect and students should be regularly monitored when using any Internet-connected technology device. Should any Chromebook issues occur over the summer, families will be able to request an appointment to bring the device in for repair service over the summer.
The summer rental fee is non-transferable and non-refundable. The device remains the property of the Hillsborough Board of Education, and, if your child withdraws or transfers from the Hillsborough Township Public School District over the summer and/or into the fall for any reason, the device must be returned to the district immediately.
The cost of the summer rental is: $25
The Summer Rental Protection Plan does NOT cover misuse, neglect, or intentional damage. Students will be responsible for the entire cost of repairs or replacement to devices damaged through student misuse, neglect, or intentional damage.
The Summer Rental Protection Plan covers accidental damages to power adapters and any loaner devices that are issued to the student in the event that their Chromebook is under repair.
The Summer Rental Protection Plan only covers stolen devices if an official police report is submitted indicating the details of the theft.
The Summer Rental Protection Plan does NOT cover lost devices, lost protective cases, or lost chargers. In the event the device is lost then the family would be responsible for a $100 deductible payment.
The Summer Rental Protection Plan covers TWO separate damage incidents over the summer only; any costs associated with additional damages after two incidents are the responsibility of the family.
The Summer Rental Fee and the Summer Rental Protection Plan are not transferable or refundable at anytime. The Summer Rental Protection plan covers the device from June 19, 2024, and September 5, 2024, and may not be carried into the school year.
District Technology devices should not be taken out of the State of New Jersey. Also note that HTPS accounts will not work outside of the country.
We will confirm receipt and activation of the plan through the Genesis Parent Portal.
