The HMS Choral Program is designed to provide an immersive choral singing experience for all 7th and 8th grade students. The HMS Choral program runs during the school day. Students meet once per week for a small group vocal lesson and on Fridays for full ensemble rehearsals. The HMS Choral Program focuses on teaching musical literacy and vocal technique through repertoire and performance. Students will perform at several concerts throughout the school year. As the choral curriculum is designed to build vocal, aural, and literacy skills, students of all musical backgrounds are welcome to join.
You do NOT need to have any musical, singing, or choir background to join, and do not let yourself think I can't sign up for choir beacause I can't sing. Just like how you sign up for band to learn how to play trumpet, or orchestra to learn how to play cello, you sign up for choir to learn how to sing!
There are two choirs at HMS, Concert Choir and Chorale. Students are placed into an ensemble after their voice placement hearing in the Spring (incoming 8th graders) or early September (incoming 7th graders).
Concert Choir is open to all students and focuses on building and growing fundamental musical literacy skills and vocal technique.
Chorale is a select ensemble of mostly 8th graders designed for students with a strong instrumental or vocal background. Being comfortable reading music is required for this ensemble.
