Families sometimes see a low price on an instrument at places like Sams Club, Walmart, etc. and think it is a great deal. Why spend a thousand dollars? These $150 instruments must be just as good, right?
Low price instruments such as these are made from a thinner metal. Often, they cannot be tuned to match the group and are made from a cheaper material that can make them non-repairable when they break.
Internet purchases are also very risk as with anything from the web. Sellers on sites like eBay or Craigslist often sell you items sight unseen or post misleading pictures. You won't have the chance to see if it will even make a sound before you buy.
