Create your very own time capsule for your backyard ... or even the very back of a cupboard.
A time capsule is a container storing a selection of objects chosen as being typical of the present time, buried for discovery in the future.
What you could include ...
photos of your family
a letter to the finders of the capsule, whether you plan for it to be YOU or someone else
your height
a list of your favourite things - sport, toy, game, subject, food, song, movie, TV Show, etc.
a local newspaper or articles or a magazine or two
a piece of technology that will soon be dated – like a remote control, mobile phone or CD.

Make your own Mandala!
Learning Intention: To create your own Mandala using any type of materials/or draw your own.
You need to find a place somewhere inside/outside of your house to place and position your Mandala.
The mandala represents an imaginary palace that is contemplated during meditation. Each object in the palace has significance, representing an aspect of wisdom or reminding the mediator of a guiding principle. The mandala's purpose is to help transform ordinary minds into enlightened ones and to assist with healing

Come up with a simple problem that you’re trying to solve. For example:

Once you have a problem sorted out (and don’t worry – you can change this later if you want), gather supplies and start designing.

Take something Apart
Did you know that a 1985 cassette tape has 24 parts? Have you seen one of these before?
One of the best at-home engineering experiments isn’t necessarily to build something… it’s to take something apart. Do you have an old broken toy at home? Do you have something that you can take apart like a flashlight/torch, old phone, old drill, old watch, or old stereo.
Let the disassembly be a learning adventure, and don’t worry too much about putting it back together again.
Make sure you ask your parents before getting started.

Design a Dance
Come up with a dance routine to a favourite song.
Elephant March
To prepare for this game, put a tennis ball in the end of a pair of panty hose or put a tennis ball in each leg of a pair of panty hose.
Set 8 cups/bottles/containers up on the floor to create a walkway.
To play, the player must put the panty hose on their head and knock over all the cups/bottles/containers by swinging their head from side to side.
This is a pretty funny one!

Channel your inner Ninja Warrior and design your own Ninja Course in your backyard! (or indoor course if it's a rainy day!)
Use any equipment you have in your yard/home.
Design your course using the following guidelines:
It can be indoors or outdoors
Safety first - consider what is safe to do in the space you choose
The course must have a clear start and finish
It must include 4 different exercises (eg. sit ups, squats etc)
Include some skills from you favourite sport
The course must be CHALLENGING but SAFE
Share your obstacle course with your family
Use a stopwatch to see your personal best time
Be creative, have fun!

Make Damper for afternoon tea
Ingredients
450g (3 cups) self-raising flour
Pinch of salt
80g butter, chilled, cubed
185ml (3/4 cup) water
Method
Preheat oven to 200°C. Line a baking tray with non-stick baking paper. Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Add the water to the flour mixture and use a round-bladed knife in a cutting motion to mix until the mixture just comes together, adding 1-2 tablespoons extra water if the mixture is a little dry. Use your hands to bring the mixture together.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1-2 minutes or until smooth. Shape into an 18cm disc and place on tray. Use a sharp knife that has been dipped in flour to mark 8 wedges on top. Dust the damper with a little extra flour and bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the damper is cooked through and sounds hollow when tapped on the base. Transfer to a wire rack for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Note: Damper was traditionally made in a cast-iron pot with a lid, called a "camp oven". The entire pot was either covered in hot wood coals or the camp oven was placed in a hole in the ground and surrounded with hot wood coals. It was usually served with tea made in a billy over the camp fire. Damper was originally made with plain flour, salt and water. Adding butter and self-raising flour came later on and gives a much tastier result.

The Three Little Pigs
Design a house for one of the Three Little Pigs.
What materials may you use to protect it?
How will you stop the wolf from getting in or blowing it down?
Building a marble run is full of design possibilities and really encourages those engineering skills.
You can build it on the wall with cardboard tubes and tape, with LEGO bricks on a baseplate, or in a box top with tape, craft sticks, or straws. The options are endless.
Use any materials you have at home to design a marble run. If you do not have a marble you can use anything small and round like a Malteser, a button, a chickpea, playdoh, a seed, a lolly, etc.
Your challenge is to construct a functioning Foosball table that has at least 12 players (6 per player) and 6 rods (3 per player).
You must be able to push, pull, and turn the rods properly to move the players.
The players must be secure enough to not fall off and hit the ball properly.
There must be two goals that the ball can be knocked into by the players.
Your challenge is to design a Pinball machine that contains the following properly-functioning parts: flippers, drain, holes, bumpers, and plunger.
You must be able to successfully launch the ball and have obstacles, such as bumpers an holes that award points to the player.
The flippers must be able to function in preventing the ball from reaching the drain (hole).

Each player is dealt seven cards.
The remaining cards are placed face down in the centre of the table, forming a draw pile.
The top card of the draw pile is turned face up to start the discard pile next to it.
First player adds to the discard pile by playing one card that matches the top card on the discard pile either by suit or by rank (i.e. 6, jack, ace, etc.).
A player who cannot match the top card on the discard pile by suit or rank must draw cards until he can play one.
When the draw pile is empty, a player who cannot add to the discard pile passes his turn.
All eights are wild and can be played on any card during a player's turn.
When a player discards an eight, he chooses which suit is now in play.
The next player must play either a card of that suit or another eight.
The first player to discard all of his cards wins.

Activity
Sort the deck of cards out into piles of four of a kind. Set aside one pile for each player. Discard the remainder of the piles.
Shuffle the chosen cards well. Deal until each player has four cards.
The aim of the game is to collect four of a kind. Players must choose what they want to collect and discard, face-down, one card at a time each turn. This card is passed to the player on their left who also discards a card to the next player on their left and so on.
Once a player has collected four of a kind, the player must immediately put a finger on their nose.
If another player sees them do this, they too put a finger on their nose even if they don't have four of a kind. The last player to notice the others and place a finger on their nose gets the letter “P” given to them.
The first player to receive all three letters: P, I, G, is eliminated. The last player in play is the winner.

Five cards are dealt to each player if three to six players are involved or with only two players, seven cards are dealt to each.
All remaining cards are placed face down in a pile.
First, choose a player to go first.
On each person's turn, ask any player for a specific card rank. For example: "Sarah, do you have any 9s?" You must already hold at least one card of the card you ask for.
If the player you ask has the card, they must give it to you. In the example, Sarah would have to give you her 9.
If you get a card from the player you ask, you get another turn.
It starts again and you may ask any player for any card you already hold, including the same one you just asked for. If the person you ask has no relevant cards, they say, "Go fish."
You then draw the top card from the draw pile. You add the drawn card to your hand.
Go Fish continues until either someone has no cards left in their hand or the draw pile runs out.

2-6 players

One player deals out all the shuffled cards around the group until there are no more left.
The players don’t look at their cards, but hold them in a stack in front of them, face down.
To begin, the player to the left of the dealer takes the top card, turns it over and places it face up next to their own pile.
Then, the next player does the same, starting a pile of their own.
This is continued until a player notices that two cards on top of any of the face-up piles are the same, such as two fives or two eights.
If a player notices this, they say “snap!” and snap their hand on top of the pile.
The first to do so receives all the cards in both of the matched piles and adds them to the bottom of their own face-down pile.
The game then continues and the winner is the player who ends up with all the cards.

Deal the cards out completely (don't worry if some players get more than others). Players sort the cards in their hands by rank: the object of the game is to get rid of all your cards.
The player to the left of the dealer starts by placing any card down on the table.
The next player looks to see if they have a card of the same rank. If they do, they place it down on top of the card, saying "Snip". If they have another card of the same rank, they place it down too, saying "Snap". If they don't, play passes to the next player, and so on.
Whoever places the final card of that rank says "Snorem" and wins the right to start the next round with the card of their choice.
Children will soon learn that it is best to lead with a card in which they have more than one of a kind.

The object of Game On is to win all the cards in the deck. Aces are high, 2s are low. The tricks are played according to rank; suits are ignored.
All 52 cards are dealt to each player (if you have two players, each player has a total of 26 cards). You do not look at your cards - they are placed in a stack face-down.
Holding the stack of cards face-down in one hand, you use the other hand to flip the card face-up on the table in front of you.
Each player flips a card, so if you have two players you will have two cards facing up in front of you. The highest card wins the trick and the trick winner takes the 2 cards and places them at the bottom of his or her stack of face-down cards. You continue play like this until one of you has accumulated all the cards.
In Game On, Game On means to break a tie. When two cards of the same rank are played, you break the tie by playing new cards in addition to those already on the table. The player with the highest-ranking new card wins the tie breaker and all the played cards.
If you both play a card of the same rank - let's say you both play a Jack - you have to have a Game On. You leave the Jacks face-up on the table and put one card on top of your Jack - face-down - and then another card face-up on top of the face-down card. So you'll have the following configuration of cards in front of you: the tied Jack, a face-down card, and a face-up card.
The person with the highest face-up card takes all the cards on the table and places them face-down at the bottom of their stack.
If the top card is another tie, you place another face-down card, then a face-up card - basically, you keep going until someone wins the Game On. This is the best and fastest way to accumulate cards.
If one of you runs out of cards in the middle of a Game On, the other player wins.
