Overview: Middle school cross-country is a distance running sport that emphasizes endurance, fitness, and personal improvement. Athletes train and compete on outdoor courses that may include grass, trails, hills, and other natural terrain. Races are about 2 miles long. Cross-country helps students build cardiovascular fitness, mental toughness, and goal-setting skills while being part of a supportive team environment. Success is measured not only by race placement but also by individual progress, effort, and sportsmanship. The sport welcomes runners of all experience levels, making it a great opportunity for students to stay active, make friends, and develop healthy habits.
