Introductions to The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian  (ATDPTI)

A. This week we will be exploring some of the stereotypes and misconceptions that exist about what life is like living on a current day reservation.

1. First I will be asking you to tell me what you know about the current conditions on Native American Indian Reservations.  What I Know/What I Learned Chart

2. Then we will be watching a lecture/video about Native Americans by Aaron Huey

3. Finally, we will be watching a short video from BBC News depicting what life is like on a reservation in South Dakota

B. Getting to know ATDPTI

1.We will be begin by familiarizing ourselves with the text.  

2. Skim through the book. Check out some of the drawings.  

3. Now go to GClassroom #24 and share your impressions with the class
