In Third Grade students will learn about art in a new and fun way and build upon skills that they learned last year! It is important to me to keep the excitement of play that young students inherently have when it comes to making art but also teaching and instilling an understanding of what they are doing and foster a growth mindset when it comes to making art that has deeper meaning.

We will focus on answering the question "Where do artist get their ideas?" in third grade. This broad big idea will help students start to think about art in a new way and how not only artist gather ideas for their work, but how they can as well. We will start connecting different ways of making art and different ways of coming up with ideas and brainstorming original works of art. Students will learn how to come up with unique ideas inspired by artists that we talk about in class. Through this exploration students will be able to draw using contour lines and begin to explore drawing representational objects as well as more structural line work as a way to explore abstraction and realism. Students will use this as a way to get to know how to use symmetry as well as asymmetry in their work. This year we will also look into advanced geometric shapes in order to build off of the past year. Students will learn more about color theory and tertiary colors. Together we will explore many different beautifully illustrated books, such as Sky Color, Dot and Ish.

As the year progresses I will share all of the amazing work that the students complete on this webpage.
